“The cutest baby deer.” Luna laughed.

It was unfair how much I loved that laugh. What the fuck were they talking about? This was cruel.

“Well, then you’re doomed.” She burst out laughing again. Who was doomed about what? Why did I even want to know so badly? No one ever had gossipy conversations around me. I wasn’t even normally one for gossip, but I’d be damned if I didn’t find whatever was going on intriguing.

“I’ve dated the whole sample platter,” Luna said, her face immediately filled with regret. “I don’t think I have any particular preference, though Allie’s right about the ton of bricks when it comes to a heat.”

Sample platter? I could only assume that meant she’d dated alphas, betas, and omegas before. Had there been other betas before me? She’d been pretty tight-lipped about her romantic history so maybe she was regretting giving anyone insight, or maybe I was the only beta and the others had never heard of her with one. Were we even dating? I liked to think we sort of were, but she’d made it clear that things had a strict limit on her side of things.

“Dr. J is great,” Luna added.

Now there was a doctor involved? Who needed a doctor? What for?

“You had a fourway?!” Luna shrieked.

The statement had me shooting up out of my seat like I’d been stuck with the cattle prod. I trotted over to her, all semblance of respecting privacy abandoned. A man could only be so strong when the gossip was that juicy. I tried to isolate the fact that my sister was one of the people on the call. I could appreciate intrigue without making that connection. Luna scampered onto the stairs so I couldn’t overhear more.

“What’s happening?” I whispered.

She waved me away again, the smile on her face bright as the sun. “Have you considered the fact that they’re all just really hot?”

Agony. That’s what this was.

Luna giggled. “Yeah, you did!”

I had no illusions that Luna would tell me the details of the conversation once she was off the phone. She was too good at keeping secrets for that, but god, I wanted to know.

“Please keep us posted,” Luna requested. “I want to know if you add the other two to the mix.”

Other two?! We were already at a fourway and now there were more?

“Sweet dreams.” Luna hung up and looked toward me, the two of us staring at one another for a long moment.

“So, what’s going on?”

“Absolutely nothing that you as a brother need to know.”

“Come on. That’s not fair. You can’t leave me hanging like that.”

“Au contraire. I can and I will. Nicky will update you in her own time, and since she phoned me and not you, that time is not right now.”

I puffed up my cheeks in a pout, and Luna’s gaze softened.

“Don’t give me that face. Do you know what a giant hypocrite I would be if I gave away her secrets while insisting mine be kept?”

“Can you at least tell me if she’s safe?”

“Safe as in generally, or safe as in you’re not going to be an uncle tomorrow?”

Oh god. Heat flooded into my cheeks. “I’ll hope for the second, but I want to know about the first.”

Luna shrugged. “I don’t know these people. She seems happy, if that’s helpful. You can’t say anything to her, though. She doesn’t know you’re here, so you have to act surprised if she brings up people she’s dating.”

I looked skyward, my hands resting on his hips. Another secret to keep. “Okay, I can do that.”

Luna hopped downstairs and looped her arms around my neck. “Good. Now let’s get this mess cleaned up so I can give you a thank-you BJ and get some sleep.”

“You’re sure they don’t suck?” I fiddled with the hem of my shirt to manage my anxiety over Nicky’s new relationship. Luca and the rest of the Marinos had met two of the pack this past weekend.
