“She and I need to get some better things in common.”

Luca chuckled as he put the vehicle into park, before racing around to open my door for me.

I let him take my hand as we walked in, indulging myself in that small comfort. The store was enormous and mildly overwhelming. Everything was a riot of color and texture with things all over the store.

“Where do you want to start?” Luca asked.

“Just drag me in a direction that looks good.”

He took me to a giant pit of plushies and pulled out a velvety lemon with a tiny smiling face on the front. “This feels like a perfect first addition to your new nest.”

I hadn’t let myself have cutesy things like this in the past, but seeing the smile on his face that was as adorable as the lemon’s, I couldn’t help but want it. “Is there a mango to go with it?”

Luca wrestled his way through the stack, and emerged victorious with a golden-yellow smiling mango.

“I love it. Can you carry them for me?”

Would it be suspicious to have Luca’s scent all over my brand new bedding? Probably. But that didn’t make me want it any less. Right now I needed comfort, and Luca had made himself that to me. If I got every new piece into his arms then every thread going into my nest to smell like him. I wanted it. Maybe I needed it too. I always slept better when he was there, and since I couldn’t have him as often as my instincts would prefer, I could have the next best thing.

He dove back into the pile and popped up with a sheepish smile and one more plush in his hand. “They don’t have exactly what I was looking for, but it’s close?”

A plush ocean wave with a giant smile and blush lines. Companies sure were getting creative, and I couldn’t be happier about it.

“Sneaking yourself symbolically into my nest?”

Luca blushed like the plush in his hands. “Maybe.”

I traced my fingertips over it and added the mango and lemon back into his arms. “I think it’ll fit in perfectly.”

Realistically, I should opt to use the store’s steam refresh service, but all my stuff was going to get weird scents on it anyway while I was staying with Sidney and Allie. Maybe I would let Luca into my new nest so he could scent it properly. Then I could selfishly indulge myself on the nights he couldn’t stay with me.

“Consider me your pack mule for this shopping trip.” Luca grinned and trotted over to a wall of pillow displays. “Are we working with a particular color palette?”

“Nah. My old one was mostly blue and white, but I leaned more to texture and I’m open to change.”

“Cool. I’m still sort of on the mark with at least one of the plushies then. I like blue, but what do you think about sunset shades? That’s what I always think about when I think of you.”

His words warmed me. “Sunset sounds pretty. I could switch it up.”

I ran my finger over some of the displays, picking out an obscenely fluffy continental pillow.

“Blankets?” Luca asked.

“I could use some new ones.”

He was like a kid in a candy store, trotting around to all the various displays and waving me over when he found something he thought I would like. I followed at a leisurely pace, clutching my new pink pillow to my chest. He found me an ombre sunset blanket that was so soft I wanted to roll naked on it, and another that was a warm cream that fit with the color palette he was helping me build.

When both of our arms were full, I called a stop to our shopping trip. “We can come back again.”

“You promise? This was actually pretty fun. I might get something for my room next time.”

“Honestly, more people should. I know it’s an omega bedding store, but we clearly have the best stuff. Alphas and betas are missing out.”

“That’ll be five-hundred even,” the cashier said when he finished running through all of my purchases. Before I could hand him my card, Luca gently pushed my wrist away and gave the cashier his own.

“We said no gifts,” I reminded him.

“We did, but these are more of a necessity and there’s not a soul who’s gonna be able to tell that I bought it instead of you.”
