We’ve talked on and off for years and she has a great head for business

I sat comfortably at the desk, reading Luna’s lengthy messages telling me about the teacher she was hoping to work with. If Luna trusted her, I was certain she would be a good match to go into business with. She would need to get other teachers on board anyway since she couldn’t teach every single hour a studio was open.

She went quiet for about half an hour and returned with a message that was both surprising and gratifying.

Sunshine:

I told Allie I’m going to be leaving my finance job to do the studio

Not for a while obviously but I didn’t want it to come out of the blue

Luca:

Proud of you ??

I couldn’t let Luna opening up to Allie about this bleed into my hope that she would tell Allie about me. I knew these were big steps for Luna.

We chatted on and off through my shift. The gym stayed quiet, bordering on boring, but Luna made it bearable. I was just settling in at home when she messaged again.

Sunshine:

I’m too worked up to sleep

Luca:

Want to go for a walk?

Sunshine:

I wouldn’t say no if you showed up

Luca:

I’ll see you in 15

I pulled on a hoodie, a lighter coat, thick socks, and my jeans to combat the midwinter evening chill. After I checked to make sure my parents were asleep, I made the short trip to Sidney’s, parked out of sight of the house, and let Luna know I was there. She looked like an angel illuminated under the streetlights when she emerged, wrapped in a cozy sweater that matched her eyes.

She beamed at me when I stepped out of the car and trotted over, and she slipped her hand into mine. “Ready for my union-mandated walkies.” Luna stuck her tongue out at me before rising on her toes to give me a quick kiss.

“It’s not too chilly out here for you?” I asked.

“Nah. If I get cold, you can toss me into the backseat and warm me up.” Her smile was infectious and I grinned back at her. We set off for an easy trip around the block, and she started to shiver immediately.

I pulled off my coat and passed it to her. “Hold this.” Before she could pull it on, I stripped away the hoodie and traded her. “There, now you have one that’s preheated.”

The garment swallowed her, her fingertips barely reaching the end of the sleeves, the bottom hem hanging to her mid-thighs. I pulled the hood up over her curls and stole myself another kiss.

“So warm,” she commented, lifting the neckline to her nose. It was impossible to miss the fact that she inhaled my scent clinging to it. She adjusted the sleeve so we could hold hands again after I put my own coat back on. The streets were quiet, and the only thing that would’ve made it more perfect was if the stars overhead weren’t so muted from the light pollution.

We circled the neighborhood slowly. Every so often, headlights would flash behind us, but they would turn off to some street or another, leaving us with just the streetlights to illuminate our path.

“I never go out for late-night walks,” she said. “For obvious reasons. It’s nicer than I expected.”

“I’ll take you out anytime you want.”

Luna tucked herself closer, wrapping her other hand around my bicep so my arm pressed down the front of her body. “I might take you up on that. I was looking at a calendar today, and we’ve been this sexy little secret for five whole months as of Friday.”

“Time flies when you’re having fun?”
