“What do we do now?” I asked, my voice trembling with uncertainty.

He reached across the table, his grip on my hand firm and reassuring. “For now, you stay here with me. I’ll do everything in my power to keep you safe, Maci. I promise.”

“For how long?” I asked.

“Indefinitely,” he answered, and I started, not really believing what I’d just heard with my own ears.

He couldn’t be serious. He was asking me to give up my life, to move away from everything I held dear based on what? Some gut feeling that I was still in danger?

My anger flared, and I stood up abruptly, facing him. “I can’t just abandon my life, Nikolaos. I want to go back home.”

He rose from his seat along with me, his expression a mix of concern and determination. “Maci, you don’t understand the danger you’re in. My enemies won’t stop until they find you. I’ve seen firsthand what they’re capable of. They’re vicious, and they’ll use any means to get to me, even if it means hurting you or even worse, killing you in cold blood.”

I could feel my emotions spiraling out of control, frustration warring with the fearful fury that had settled in my chest.

“You’re involved in all this illegal stuff, and you expect me to just stay with you here quietly? I don’t think so,” I countered, gritting my teeth and fisting my hands at my sides.

“When I said you’d be staying here with me indefinitely, I didn’t mean to imply that it was optional, Maci,” he said darkly, and his jawline tensed with enough anger to match my own.

“I don’t want to be a part of your world. I just want to go back home,” I replied hotly, and his expression hardened further.

“I didn’t want you to be a part of my world either. I set you up so you would never be dragged into it. All you had to do was keep out of trouble and none of this would have ever happened,” he snapped, his fury far more palpable now.

I took a step towards him, leveling him with a glare that was fit to kill. The room felt charged with tension, and I couldn’t help but notice the way his eyes bored into mine, intense and unwavering. Despite the anger and frustration, there was something else in the air, something I willfully tried to ignore, but I knew what it was.

Desire.

My clit throbbed as Nikolaos cocked his head. His brow furrowed, but he remained silent.

“What do you mean this would have never happened?” I pressed.

“The only reason they found out about you was because I had to go bail you out of jail,” he said, his frustration clear.

“You’re serious right now?” I scoffed.

“As the grave, Maci-girl. All you had to do was not get busted and none of this would have ever happened.”

“I can’t believe you’re mad at me about getting arrested when you’re basically a fucking mob boss,” I snapped, unable to hold back my anger.

The words hung in the air between us, and the room seemed to crackle with even more tension. I could feel the heat between us despite the rage and frustration still radiating off of each of us in spades. Our bodies were so close, our breaths mingling, and I couldn’t deny the unfathomable desire that coursed through me.

I tried to suppress it. I failed.

His gaze darkened, and his fingers brushed against my cheek, a feather-light touch that sent shivers down my spine.

“Maci,” he began, his voice low and husky, “I never wanted any of this for you. But now that you’re in danger, I’ll do whatever it takes to keep you safe, and if that means keeping you captive here in my home, then so be it.”

“I can’t fucking believe…” I began, but his hand jerked back to grab the hair at the base of my scalp. He fisted his fingers into my hair, and I cried out, a flash of pain radiating across my skull. With force, he pulled me in, and what came next was far more shameful than anything I could have ever imagined.

I should have resisted. I should have continued to argue, but in that moment, it was as if the world had melted away, leaving only the two of us.

Our lips met in a searing kiss, and all at once, it consumed me. Fiery passion ignited between the two of us, and I kissed him back, ignoring all the glaring red flags that should have stopped me.

He was my godfather.

And he was almost twice my age.

Not to mention he was also a fucking billionaire godfather mob boss or whatever the dangerous fuck he was.
