I smile a little as Doc nods; he's told us stories of patients who hit near death and see what they believe is their future.
"Mary's favorite flower?" I rasp.
Sarah nods, "She said it was very fitting." I furrow my brows as her eyes water. "Mary was there, Hunter." Doc clears his throat at her calling me my given name, but I don't take my eyes off my girl's, "I know it sounds delusional, but it felt so real. She was at peace, even happy. She no longer had any pain, and do you know how I know I'm not crazy seeing her when I nearly died?" I shake my head, and she smiles a little and rasps, "She basically called me stupid for trying to save you because Helena would have missed, then threatened to haunt me if I didn't give you a chance. Do you really think I'd have a dream of Mary threatening me with that?"
I grin wide before making eye contact with Doc, who chuckles, "Honestly, Sarah, patients who have had a near-death experience can experience anything in that situation, and only those know the truth, but to be fair, I don't think you'd dream of Mary threatening you to give Pres here another chance; you'd probably dream of her telling you to run."
I playfully narrow my eyes, making Doc grin as Sarah smiles a sad smile and rasps, "She sends her love," making Doc's grin turn softer before she looks at me, "and she says she misses your phone calls; just how many did you two have?"
I clear my throat, hoping my emotions stay locked tight, and rasp, "A lot," making her smile and her fingers squeeze mine. Doc sees her action and nods, "I'm going to ensure no one bothers you for a while. I'll let your parents know you're awake, but you two need to talk."
He sends me a sad smile. He regrets his actions lately and misses the girl who holds his heart. I thank him before gently climbing onto the bed with Sarah, her hand reaching my stomach and her head leaning against my shoulder. I sigh in contentment now that she's finally awake.
We're quiet for a little while before Sarah asks, "Do you think I'm crazy?"
I smile before kissing her head, "No, baby. Only you know what you experienced and whether it was real."
She hums, "What if I told you she said to tell you not to load rifles around your brother anymore?"
My eyes widen. Fuck me.
I look at her and laugh, "No one else knew about that except for your sister Sarah."
Her tears fall as she nods, and I give her a smile before my smile fades, "Fuck, if she told you that, that means we really are having a daughter, which means I need to load up."
Sarah snorts but winces, making me scowl, but she waves her hand and says, "I'm fine; don't worry, and no chance am I letting you load up. You're the one who loaded your brother's rifle, causing him to get the road name sniper."
I let out a grin before stating, "Yeah, but it was fucking funny," making her smile wide back, shaking her head before sighing.
I gently move her hair out of her beautiful heart-shaped face.
"Talk to me, baby."
She nods. "I want to forgive you." I hold my breath, "But I'm still so mad. Mary encouraged me before her death before she knew you went to another woman, even for a grope," I wince, not my finest moment, "and it seems after death she's still trying to encourage me, but I think... I think I need some time; I-I mean, I know I've had some, but-but I was so focused on not wanting to forgive that I haven't had the chance to."
I sigh but nod in understanding. Her pride and stubborn streak have taken over the past few weeks, but I don't really blame her; the thought of another man touching what's mine makes my fucking blood boil. "I'll give you all the time you need as long as that time is at our house, baby."
She furrows her brows, "I've been staying at the club, Hunter."
I smile at her using my given name and kiss her forehead. "Not the club, baby, the house that will be ready next month. Momma had begged me to build on club land for years, and I have finally done it. You'll be moving in."
She snorts, "So sure I'll forgive you?"
I give her a smile and rasp, "No, just hopeful," before kissing her lips lightly as the door opens. Her Momma rushes in with her dad behind her gasping, seeing their daughter awake, breaking our moment. I send a playful scowl toward Gerry, who grins wide before fussing over his daughter. I don't move from my place; instead, I lean my head back, keep my fingers on my girl on my stomach, and close my eyes as peace washes over me now my girl is finally awake.
Chapter 28
Sarah – One Month Later
I sigh as I grab the paperwork for the customer who is currently looking my body up and down from where I'm standing behind the reception desk, my white dress clinging to my body at Devil's Motor Garage, where yes, I am back to working again after the brothers decided to hand in my immediate notice—assholes, okay, not really, the thought of working there again after nearly dying didn't sound appealing to be honest, plus the men were sexist, but like hell will I tell the brothers that.
I'm still not allowed to do heavy-duty, so Sniper put me on desk work because I was going out of my mind until Doc gave me the all-clear. I'm no longer in pain, but I still get a twinge in my chest every so often, which is apparently normal.
I turn and give the man who seems to think he's God's gift to women with his blue mohawk and lip ring a professional smile before placing the paperwork on the desk and pointing to the line, "If you could please sign here to say you're happy with the work done, we can release your bike for you, sir."
He nods, his eyes still looking me up and down while biting his lip, making me roll my eyes. I'm sixteen weeks pregnant with a little girl, so I have a noticeable small bump. However, when Doc was told I was carrying a girl, he was freaked out, which I found hilarious.
The guy is still looking at me like he wants to bend me over. I roll my eyes again as the idiot bites his thumb suggestively as I sit before Sniper's voice echoes through the glass room as he walks toward us, "You might want to put those eyes back into your head before you lose them."
