Troy has obviously noticed something, so I swipe my phone and nod toward the other end of the room.

As I get there, I whisper, “Hi. I wasn’t aware you had my number?”

“Easy enough to find.”

“For you maybe, but I don’t give it out lightly. Which one of my friends did you torture to get it?”

“And here was me thinking you didn’t have any friends.”

He laughs softly and I find myself smiling as he says in his husky voice.

“Meet me tomorrow. The gym off East Street. There’s a diner that’s not bad where we could grab lunch.”

My heart drops as I say with regret. “I’m sorry. My mom, well, it’s been a difficult day and we’ve decided to get her professional help. I’m checking out a place tomorrow with my brother. I doubt I’ll make lunch.”

“Then I get your evening instead.”

Why does that light a burning trail to my libido and my voice shakes as I whisper, “Okay. Where are you thinking?”

“I’ll pick you up outside your gates. Wear jeans and a jacket. It’s cold on the bike.”

“I remember.”

I laugh softly. “I needed a sauna to thaw out.”

“I can help with that.” His husky voice is doing strange things to me inside and I wish like hell I could meet him now. There is something so deliciously wicked about Apollo and I feel cheated out of a night exploring what being with a man like him would be like.

“Eight pm. Until then.”

He cuts the call and I struggle to gather my composure because Troy will know in a heartbeat that something’s up if I return with an infatuated smile on my face.

“Who was that?” He nods toward my phone, and I shrug. “Just a friend.”

“Who makes your eyes light up and your heart beat faster.”

“Fuck you, Troy.”

He fixes me with his usual enigmatic look.

“So, what’s his name and should he be certified? Perhaps he already is.”

“Wouldn’t you like to know?”

I smile but decide the best plan of action is to get the hell out of here because if Troy saw the company I’m keeping, he would admit me along with my mother and keep me there for posterity.

I yawn loudly. “Anyway, I’m off to bed. I have a busy day tomorrow.”

“Goodnight, sis.”

I can sense his eyes burning into my back as I leave the room and I curse my luck that Apollo called me when my brother was in earshot. He is extremely protective and doesn’t make it easy for me, and I’m guessing this isn’t the last conversation we’ll be having on this subject.

CHAPTER 13

APOLLO

Iwake the next morning and plan my day accordingly. Before my ‘date’ with Melissa, I have a different one entirely with Shade Vieri.

I’m to meet him at his club in town at two o’clock and so I spend the morning at the gym and my new eatery, The Busy Skillet.
