“Huh?”

“I want your other lips, Kelsey. So keep moving up.”

Suddenly, his instructions click and I understand what he means. I continue to slide up his body until I’m straddling his face. All I’m going to say is thank God he has a headboard for me to hold on to.

Apparently, I’m not close enough — Joey grabs my thighs and yanks me down to his face, burying his mouth into my pussy as he does.

“Ohhhh, fuck,” I moan loudly.

Joey’s tongue moves expertly up and down my slit, before switching it up to sucking on my clit. I didn’t expect to have to grab the headboard so quickly, but my legs are trembling so intensely that I need support. I feel like I’m going to fall against his face and suffocate him if I don’t.

My hips start moving of their own free will, riding Joey’s face, chasing my orgasm that remains slightly out of reach. Every single inch of my body is thrumming with pleasure — I feel like Joey’s tongue lit a fuse that’s rapidly burning through me, threatening to explode at any moment.

“Joey!” my voice quivers.

“Come for me, Angel.” His voice is muffled against my pussy. It’s that last word — Angel — that sends me over the edge. A tidal wave of nerves rush through me as I come hard and fast against his face. I can definitely get used to this new dynamic of our relationship.

Joey and I revert back to lying in each other’s arms, too spent to do anything else. My mind is racing a mile a minute with what this means for us now. Are we dating, or is this a friends-with-benefits situation? I feel like we’re a bit too old to be casually fucking, plus there’s a lot of history between us.

“Okay, so I’ve got to know…” Joey starts, and I give him an inquisitive stare. “Why do you have such a… reaction when I call you Angel?” He emphasizes the word in a sensual undertone.

I feign innocence and laugh awkwardly. “I have no idea what you’re talking about.”

“Oh, come on. It isn’t lost on me that you came the second I called you that. So, spill.”

I let out an exasperated sigh and roll my eyes to the side. “You’re going to think it’s stupid,” I whisper, biting my lip.

“I doubt it — try me.”

“So you know that author I have all those books by?”

“You mean the porn?” he smirks mischievously.

“Cliterature, get it right.” I poke his chest playfully. “Well, in one of the series that I like by her, one of the main guys calls his girl Angel. He’s one of my favorite characters that she’s written, so hearing that nickname makes me feel like I’m in her shoes, and it makes me feel… worshipped, I guess. I don’t know.” I tip my chin down and shake my head. “I told you it was lame.”

Joey lifts my chin so my face is once again level with his. “That’s not lame at all, Kels. I actually think it’s kind of sexy. And just so you know, I will always do everything in my power to make you feel worshipped — I promise.”

I feel my face flush with heat at his words. The smoldering look in his eyes has me wanting to melt into the bed. I know I shouldn’t ruin this moment with questions, so I absentmindedly run my fingers up and down Joey’s back. I love exploring every groove of his muscular body.

“What’s the matter?” His voice breaks through every intrusive thought running through my brain.

“Nothing.” I don’t want to ruin the moment we’re having by interrogating him.

“You can tell me or I can force it out of you.”

Part of me is intrigued to see how he would “force” the answer out of me, but right now I’m far too exhausted from this morning’s activities. “I guess…” I blow out a breath. “I’m just wondering what this is.” I motion my hand between my chest and his. “Like, what are we?”

“Well…” He sits up and looks down at me, brushing a stray strand of hair away from my face. “You’re the one I’ve compared every single woman I’ve ever dated to. You’re the woman who has had my heart racing like a jackrabbit anytime I’m around you for as long as I can remember. You’re the most amazing thing that’s ever entered my life, and I’m a fucking fool for waiting so long to tell you that. But most of all, you are mine — finally — and I will never, ever, take that for granted.”

Joey’s lips crash down onto mine before I even get a chance to respond to his speech. Every woman has their dream of Prince Charming coming to sweep them off their feet. I never wanted Prince Charming. I’ve always wanted this tattooed, muscular, dirty-talking mechanic who has been the one constant in my life since we were seventeen. I’ve always wanted Joey Brooks.

Chapter 23

“I hate to leave you so early in the morning, but I have to go into the shop for a little bit today,” I groan as I pull away from Kelsey’s embrace. “But I’ll be done by early afternoon if you wanted to go do something tonight.”

Her bright smile lights up the room. “Yeah, I’d like that. I think I’ll go meet up for brunch with Savannah while you’re gone.”

My head rolls back in exasperation. “Oh, God. How awkward should I prepare to feel when I go to the pub?”
