“Yes, Angel, I know. But we have the whole rest of our honeymoon to sleep in — they have to leave today. You’re going to end up being very upset if they head home without you saying goodbye, and you know it.”

I see her green eyes peek out from between the pillows, still laced with sleep. “I hate it when you’re right, you know that?”

“Yup, now get that gorgeous ass of yours out of bed and get dressed. They probably already ate breakfast, but we can at least find them and spend a little time together before they have to go.” I lightly slap her ass for good measure, and to make sure she actually gets moving.

Kelsey and I walk hand in hand down the hallway to the stairs, getting hit with the aroma of the breakfast buffet before we even see it. I shouldn’t get used to this because we’re on vacation, but fuck. It sure would be nice to wake up to this every morning.

As we make our way to the dining room, Kelsey stops dead in her tracks. When I look to see what has her so shocked, I’m right there with her. Savannah and Frankie are sitting at the table together, eating breakfast and sharing a laugh about something. Kelsey and I look at each other, exchanging a glance that’s half-panic, half-intrigue.

“Hey, there’s the newlyweds! We didn’t expect to see you this early.” Savannah is beaming a little too excitedly.

“If grumpy-pants here had her way, we’d still be in bed.” I tickle Kelsey’s side to get her to smile. “But I figured we should spend a bit of time with you guys before you have to head home.”

“This trip was way too short. I wish I hadn’t told Mom and Dad that I’d be here and back before Christmas. What the hell was I thinking?”

“That you didn’t want both of us to crush their souls this Christmas?” Kelsey laughs lightly.

Frankie has been unusually silent through this whole exchange, so while Kelsey and Savannah keep bantering back and forth, I take a seat next to him.

“Did we interrupt something here?” I ask him quietly.

Frankie doesn’t answer me. Instead, he continues to stare at Savannah like she’s the only person in the room.

“Yo, Earth to Frankie.” I snap my fingers in front of his face to get his attention.

“Huh?” His head spins quickly to look at me.

“What’s with you, man?” My eyebrows raise at him.

“How did I never notice her before, dude? She’s smokin’ hot and smart as hell. And fuck me, does she know a lot about food.”

“Well… you do realize that she owns a pub, right?”

There’s something alarmingly new about Frankie’s demeanor. I’ve never seen him so worked up over someone.

“Alright, two things. One — that girl is now officially my sister-in-law. Which means despite the fact that you’re my best friend, I will pound the ever-loving shit out of you if you hurt her. Two — please do your best not to join the Mile High Club on your way back to the States, okay?” I lay a hand on his shoulder.

“No promises on the second point,” he smirks at me with that grin that’s landed him in plenty of women’s beds.

I look around the room, taking a mental picture of this scene. While I’m sad that our parents couldn’t be here for the wedding, I feel like we still had everything we needed between these two and the castle staff. I can envision spending every holiday like this — surrounded by a small group of people who matter to me more than anyone else in the world. Especially that red-headed bombshell I get to call my wife. If the rest of my days begin and end with her, I’ll die a very happy man.

Chapter 65

A rattling sound brings me out of my deep slumber, causing me to groan.

“Rise and shine, Angel,” Joey announces as he walks into the bedroom with a tray. “Breakfast in bed for your first day back after vacation.”

“I should’ve taken one more day,” I yawn out my words. Jet lag hit me hard coming home, and despite that I had all day yesterday to recover, I’m still wrecked. I’ve only ever traveled to another time zone once — when I went to Washington to visit a friend from college.

Joey sets the tray down in front of me and I practically drool at the sight — fluffy pancakes, crispy bacon, and a steaming cup of coffee in my favorite mug.

“Who said the honeymoon was over?” I smirk up at him.

“You’re going to need fuel today, Kels. Not to say that I’ll never bring you breakfast in bed again, of course.”

“Well, as usual, you made entirely too much food, so why don’t you sit down and join me?”

“I suppose I could do that.” He snatches a piece of bacon off the plate and takes a bite.
