Ryker kept himself between her and the people in the lobby as they walked to the elevator. She tucked her face into his side, not that it did much to disguise her rainbow hair.

They stepped into the elevator and turned to face the entrance. Ryker’s arm slipped off her shoulder, though he continued to stand beside her.

Drake already had their floor selected and hit the door-close button.

“Jade!” she heard a fan shout, and she saw two or three people turn to look at the elevator. She gave them a small smile and wave, right as the door slid shut.

Her stomach churned from the reality Ryker dropped on her.

Rosé said she would get her punishment soon. Would he resort to murder?

Drake looked at her and said, “You look a little green. Are you okay?”

She nodded. “I’ll live. Hopefully.”

Drake’s forehead wrinkled with confusion.

Ryker said, “You’ll live. We’ve got you covered.”

Well, that was reassuring, but...

“Pinkie promise?” she asked, half-teasing, half-serious.

Ryker looked down at her for a minute. With a serious expression, he extended his little finger to her and said, “Pinkie promise.”

Though it was childish and there was really no way he could guarantee her safety like that, she still felt 100 times better after they shook pinkies.

Back in the suite, Bex sat on the couch in front of the TV eating an apple. She already spiked her pixie-cut brown hair into a Mohawk. She looked dainty but had a big presence and a powerful voice. Bex was always a reassuring presence in Jade’s life, and Jade smiled when she saw her.

Benny, whose bald head shined in the lamplight, sat in the chair closest to the door where he could watch the entire room.

A dining table sat near the door to the balcony; drapes covered the windows.

“Morning,” Bex greeted as the trio returned to the room.

“Morning,” Jade said. “What’s for breakfast?”

“Whatever you want to order from room service,” Bex said with a laugh. “Or there’s some fruit in the welcome basket over there.”

Jade looked at Ryker and Drake. “You guys up for breakfast?”

Drake laughed and said, “Hell yeah. We’re always up for food. What do you want? I’ll order for you while you get changed.”

“I don’t know if it’s on the menu or not, but what sounds great right now is pancakes with strawberries and whipped cream.”

“That’s gotta be on the menu. If it’s not, I’ll make it happen, anyway. I’ve got you.” Drake winked at her and walked toward the hotel phone.

“Dude, you rock. Thank you! I’ll be back in a few.”

“You want anything else, Bex?” he asked as he picked up the receiver.

Jade turned to walk to her room and was surprised when Ryker walked with her.

“You helping me change now?” she teased.

“I need to secure your room before you go in there.”
