“Gods,” Sol said, his own chuckles joining hers. “I don’t think I’ve ever heard you laugh before. Not like that.”

Yes, he had only heard her laugh in derision or incredulity. Nothing else.

“It is freeing being out here,” she admitted. “I’ve never done anything like this before, and it’s so… unexpected.”

“Why do you think I do it?” Sol asked. “Being stuck in that stuffy castle all day can mess with your mind. Sometimes, I need to escape.”

“Escape?” Pandora raised an eyebrow. “From the luxuries of the palace?”

Sol flicked water in her face. “From so many eyes and expectations. Being Apollo’s apprentice seemed glamorous when I accepted it, but being near him puts me in the public eye far too much for my liking.”

“Really? I saw you when we were in Amara. You love the public eye.”

He rolled his eyes. “Being around humans is far different from being around gods.”

“You don’t like being around gods?”

He shrugged. “Some of them aren’t so bad.” He gave her a sultry look under his lashes.

“Oh, like me?” Pandora tilted her head, flashing a smile at him.

He laughed. “Oh no, Trivia, you’re the worst. I detest you.”

“Well, the feeling is mutual.” She flicked water at him, too.

He swam closer to her, his leg brushing against hers. “Careful, now. I’ve heard these waters can be treacherous. Something might pull you under.”

“Something? Or someone?”

He gave her a sly smile.

Then, his hands were on her waist, and she yelped in surprise. In one deft movement, he lifted her so she was pulled against his chest, her feet flailing underwater. She clung to his shoulders, worried he would toss her.

“What are you doing?” she shrieked.

Sol only laughed as he released her, but she kept her hold around his neck, wrapping her legs tightly around his middle to keep herself from falling in. She wasn’t necessarily scared of being tossed into the water—she just didn’t want him to win.

Laughter bubbled up her throat as he tried to remove her limbs from his body, but they were severely tangled in each other.

“You can’t dispose of me so easily,” Pandora said breathlessly, her face close to his.

His chuckles subsided as he gazed at her, and only then did she realize just how close their naked bodies were. Her breasts were flush against his chest, her center rubbing directly against him.

And she could feel him. All of him. His arousal pressed along the underside of her leg, making her cheeks heat.

But she didn’t loosen her hold on him. The amusement of the moment was gone, but she couldn’t bring herself to release him just yet. Something hot and molten churned between them, and she suddenly found it hard to breathe.

“I quite like the way your body fits with mine, Trivia,” Sol murmured. Light danced in his eyes, and as she stared at them, she realized they weren’t dark brown like she had assumed; they were a deep, midnight blue. The colors of the swirling waves around them brought out the color of his eyes, and she found herself getting lost in them.

“Your eyes,” he whispered, as if following her train of thought. “They are like the glowing sun.”

She knew her eyes were gold, but no one had ever compared them to the sun before. She’d been told they looked like honey or whiskey, but never the sun.

She was the sun, and he was the sea.

His hand splayed along her back, his fingers running a path up and down her spine. With his other hand, he cupped her ass, bringing her closer against him. Her breath hitched. A riot of heat and yearning bolted through her, and she closed her eyes. How long had it been since someone touched her like this?

Sol’s nose brushed against hers, and a shiver of pleasure rippled over her body. Her legs tightened around him, grinding her center directly against him, and he groaned.
