“You’ll what?” He smiled, his eyes darkening as they bore into hers.

She tried to remove her wrists, but he only pulled her closer. His chest heaved with heavy breaths, and her skittering pulse matched it. Rage boiled in her blood, flaming and burning inside her. She wanted to slap him. She wanted to impale him with her tree branches.

She wanted to…

Desire seized hold of her, and she gripped his collar tightly, pulled his face to hers, and kissed him.

RIVALS

PANDORA

Pandora wasn’t sure what happened. One moment, she wanted to snap Sol’s neck.

The next, she was kissing him.

And even stranger—he was kissing her back.

For several moments, nothing but raw, carnal need took over. Their mouths crashed, their tongues collided, and their bodies aligned, as if both were trying to push harder against the other. Even in kissing, they were still rivals.

But gods above, his lips were hot and dangerous against hers, his tongue smooth and delicious. He grasped her hips, pulling her flush against him. Then his hands slid lower, cupping her ass and pressing hard. She writhed, grinding directly against his arousal, and he groaned into her mouth. Her teeth captured his bottom lip, and she tugged, this time eliciting a growl from him.

In this moment, they were animals. And it was a power struggle to determine who was the more dominant species.

Pandora couldn’t deny it. She wanted to win.

But another, more desperate side of her wanted to lose. Because gods, the way he was ravishing her, made her bones melt into a puddle of pleasure.

He broke their kiss, only for his mouth to find her neck. He nibbled there, his teeth grazing lower until he bit the space where her neck met her shoulder. She gasped, throwing her head back, her eyes closing as she let desire fully take over.

No, she told herself. Stay alert. You can still win this. You will not give him this control over you.

You will not be controlled.

She pushed aside the bursting stars in her vision, the need to spiral away into her lustful fantasies. Grasping hold of what little clarity she still had, she gripped his belt, tugging him closer, and plunged her hands into his trousers.

He made a startled sound against her throat as her fingers wrapped around his hard length, clenching tightly.

Another sound escaped him, something between a roar and a groan. The outburst made her toes curl, but it also brought smug satisfaction. It was the sound of a man in the throes of passion.

She had him.

He backed her against the wall, slamming her so hard that a handful of books fell from the nearby shelves. The sconce on the wall rattled from the impact, and the back of Pandora’s head throbbed. He hitched up her legs, spreading them on either side of him while his hands worked at bunching the violet fabric of her skirts.

Oh gods, oh gods, oh gods…

Would he take her right here in the library?

And would she let him?

She kept her fingers wrapped around him even as he hiked her dress higher and higher, clearly looking to retaliate. His mouth was no longer on her neck. Instead, he looked at her, his eyes dark with desire and fiery need. His breath was hot against her skin, his chest rising and falling with hers. She could feel his heartbeat drumming even through his tunic.

He was just as manic as she was.

But, like her, he would never admit it.

She stared back at him, lips parted as her own ragged breaths swept through her.

She’d had lovers before, of course. In past experiences, this would be the moment they would utter things like, Gods, I want you, or You are so beautiful, or Tell me how you like it.
