She smiles sleepily. “So I really am waking up next to you, it’s not a dream?” She kisses my chest. “I’ve missed this every morning since we broke up—being nestled in these arms.”

I quirk an eyebrow, playfully teasing, “Is it everything you remember?” Pulling her close, I gently kiss her forehead. “Because having you here exceeds every fantasy I had.”

“Even better than I imagined.” She nuzzles closer with a contented sigh. “I don’t know how I’ll go back to waking up alone after this.”

My heart thunders inside my chest as I see the door opening for me. “You don’t have to live without them,” I hint, and in return, I only get a frown. “You just need to wish for it. Remember, Sephie, communicate what you want and I’ll give it to you.”

She bites her lip. “It’s not that simple. There’s a world of difference between what I desire and reality. But we can find ways to do this often.”

Her words are the answer to my prayers, we want the same thing. After the earth-shattering night we experienced, I can’t imagine not having her in my bed, in my arms, and next to my heart every night.

The words tumble from my lips before I can rein them in. “Marry me.” I hug her tightly, before scrambling from the bed to grab the ring I’ve been holding onto for more than seven years.

Going down on one knee, I take the leap. “Seraphina St. Clairmont, would you please do me the honor of becoming my beloved wife? The woman who would walk by my side supporting me as I support you. Be my companion, my lover, my friend, and the person I seek when I need to share the good news and the bad news and everything in between. Let me share your joy and take away the sadness. Walk by my side always because I can’t imagine life without you.”

Her wide eyes lock onto the ring. She’s silent, and as tears trace her cheeks, panic begins to choke me.

“We don’t have to . . .” I begin, my voice rough with fear, “If it’s too soon, if I’ve?—”

She gets out of bed, going down on both knees, and taking my hands. “These are tears of joy. You’ve always been gentle, understanding, and loving with me. And after everything that happened to us, we still found our way back to each other. Not only that, you want to marry me. The answer is yes. I want to be your wife and share everything with you. The good, the messy—all of it, because at the end of the day we’ll make it better, together.”

I pull her to me, kissing her like I’ve never kissed anyone before, loving her like I’ll only love her. Trying to share with her my every thought, my every heartbeat, my entire soul.

“I’m forever yours, Sephie.”

“Forever,” we say in unison.

After the morning celebration, we head back home, where the kids are impatiently waiting for us.

“Since Mom was at your place last night, it’s only fair you stay with us tonight,” Ary suggests eagerly.

“It’s not that simple,” Sephie answers.

“Please, Mom,” Ewan chimes in, his big eyes round and pleading. This kid has that puppy pout down, and his mom has a hard time saying no to it. I must confess, I do too. “If he does, he’ll be able to read us longer books during bedtime.”

I meet Sephie’s gaze because now that I think about it, nothing would make me happier than to sleep under their roof. Start our dream of being a true family.

Before Seraphina can respond, Ary gasps, grabbing her hand. “That’s such a pretty ring.”

Sephie touches her hand, hugging it close to her chest.“Your dad asked me to marry him.”

“And you said yes, right?” Ary asks excitedly.

Sephie’s lips curl into a radiant smile. “Yes, of course.”

“Oh, boy, they’re going to be kissing all the time,” Ewan grumbles, rolling his eyes dramatically and making me laugh.

“Probably, bud,” I say, ruffling his hair.

“Let’s get moving, kiddos,” Sephie directed.

“Where are we going?” Ary bounces on her toes. “Should I wear a pretty dress?”

“We’re going to visit your grandfather. But first, we’re making a quick stop.”

Once the kids are settled in the car, the driver navigates toward the address the realtor shared just last week. Sephie loved it when I showed her the pictures. I think we found the perfect house—our dream home.
