She glanced over my shoulder. “Ah, but I’m not talking about your friends. I’m talking about a certain doctor of yours, who, I dare say, was very taken with your performance.”

What?

I twisted around so quickly I almost gave myself whiplash. Standing at the end of the row, leaning against the wall and looking completely fucking divine in his suit, was Killian.

My feet moved before my brain could catch up. When I was standing in front of him, I licked my lips, feeling inexplicably nervous for some reason.

“W-what are you doing here? Did the dinner— Was everything okay with the dinner? Are you okay?”

His lips curved into the softest smile, directed at me. “I left the dinner about five minutes after I arrived.”

“Why?” I whispered, staring into his beautiful eyes.

“Because I realised that the things I’d once placed so much value in were no longer of value to me. My priorities have changed. I spoke to the vice chancellor and officially retracted my application for the head of the business school.”

“I-I don’t understand.”

Reaching up, he cupped my jaw, gently drawing me closer to him. “Do you really not understand? Don’t you know how I feel about you?”

I could only stare at him, caught in his intense gaze.

“Joshua,” he murmured. “I don’t want to live in a world where I don’t get to call you mine. Where I have to hide my love for you when you deserve to be loved freely and openly. I don’t want to compromise. I want you. You and only you. I’ve fallen in love with you, and I’m choosing you.” His words faltered. “I…I hope you’ll consider choosing me, too.”

My entire body was shaking. “Is—is this real? You really love me?”

Sliding his hand around the back of my neck, he rested his forehead against mine. We were breathing in each other’s breaths, as close as it was possible for two people to get. “You’re my sunshine. You light up my life in ways I could never have imagined. I love you with everything I have.” Taking my hand, he moved back, just enough to create a space to slide it between our bodies. He gently placed it directly over his heart, his fingers covering mine. “I give you my heart. It belongs to you.”

I was struggling to wrap my head around his beautiful words, and I knew it would take a while to sink in, but this brave, wonderful man who’d just poured his heart out to me was waiting for a reply, and I wouldn’t keep him waiting any longer.

Swallowing hard around the lump in my throat, I pressed my palm against his chest, feeling the beat of his heart underneath my hand. Brushing my lips against his, I spoke. My words were simple compared to his, but I meant them with everything that was in me. “Killian Wilder. If you’re all in, I’m all in. I love you so much, and I choose you. I’ll always choose you.”

He trembled against me, and I wrapped my arms around him. When he kissed me, so softly and sweetly, I melted against him, kissing him back with everything I had. This man was mine. Properly mine.

“Your one great love.”

We drew apart at the sound of G’s voice, Killian gently wiping a tear from my lashes.

“You were right, G.” I turned to face her, leaning back against Killian as he slid his arms around my waist.

“I always am, dear, as you well know. You found your one great love in each other, and you made an old woman very happy in the process.”

“You won’t be happy after you see this text from Barbara.” Bryn rolled his eyes, brandishing his phone. “She’s sent back a photo of her posing with the three gentlemen from the third floor.”

“That hussy! Right, places, everyone! Ander! Niccolò! Come here and bring your friends. We’re going to have a group photo, with me in the middle, of course. Would any of you handsome young men like to show off your muscles? Ander, I know you would. Come, show the others how it’s done.”

Killian chuckled in my ear. “This is what my life is going to be like now, isn’t it?”

I smiled, covering his hands with mine and sliding my fingers between his. “Afraid so. You get me, you get everyone else. I guess I’m a package deal.”

“Is that so?” He pressed a kiss to the side of my jaw, lightly scraping over my skin with just a hint of teeth, a prelude for things to come later. When we were alone, far away from well-meaning but incredibly nosy friends and family. “As long as you’re the only one in my bed, I think I could get used to it.”

Tilting my head so I could meet his eyes, I found him smiling at me, his gaze soft. I returned his smile, my heart so full of love for him. “Good, because now I have you, I’m never letting you go.”

The man standing between my legs had a look of intense concentration on his face as he carefully wiped the cotton pad under my eyes, removing the glittery black eyeliner from my lids. He’d removed his suit jacket and rolled up the sleeves of his shirt, but other than that, he was fully dressed, which was something I’d be rectifying just as soon as he let me get my hands on him.

I still couldn’t believe what had happened tonight. It felt like a dream—the best dream I’d ever had.
