He smirks. “What do you mean?”

“Your brain is working so hard there’s smoke coming from your ears. Don’t hurt yourself and just ask.”

“You’re a pretty grumpy bastard for someone who just danced with one of the hottest women in here.”

“I need another shot to put these flames out.”

“Mister One Drink and Done wants another shot? Well, fuck yes!” He pulls me to the bar that connects the dining area to the club floor. “This man needs a shot he says. Set him up with whatever he wants.”

“Patron with a cherry. Make it a double.”

I suck down half the shot before I say another word. Wes is like a dog waiting on a bone. I feed him what he didn’t see but keep the most intimate details for myself. First of all, I’ve never been one to fuck and tell. More than that, I don’t want the images of what we shared known to anyone but Viper.

The arch of her back in my hands. The sounds she made in my ear. The fire that burned in her eyes. The fury she created in my body. No. Those details I want for myself.

“I like this chick for so many reasons,” Wes exclaims.

“Okay, she’s not a chick.”

“Listen,” he picks up the remainder of my shot, “she popped your post-divorce cherry. She got you outside yourself and inside her. I think that’s a total win for both of you. Don’t overanalyze it.”

“I’m not. I just wish I knew where to find her. I’d like to see her again.”

“She twisted you up that quickly. Damn. That’s some voodoo she’s got.”

I don’t know about voodoo but there was a definite magic.

Thank God for Uber and Hayley. She was the only one sober enough to get us back home. I know she was completely annoyed with us. Hayles was worried about me cockblocking her when the night started. She ended it by being pissed at Wes.

She’d been talking to a guy all night, and was about to get his number, when Wes started calling her babe and draping all over her. I stood back and just watched. Hayley kept yelling at me to control him. Her potential new beau, after some convincing, did give her his number. Hayley then had a couple of punches for Wes in the back seat.

Hayley and I had Wes dropped off at his parents’ place first. Not only did they live closer, but I also know she was ready to be rid of him for the night. After he was gone, she let out a long growl followed by a giggle.

“Sometimes I think he’s jealous.”

I raise my head from the lean I’d taken to the window. “What?”

“He was acting like a jealous boyfriend.”

“That’s gross. Don’t say that.”

“Why? I’m not good enough for him?” she asks.

“Ummm, no. He’s not good enough for you.”

She laughs. “That was a quick response. Tell me how you really feel.”

I toggle from the window to her shoulder. “I had a good time tonight.”

“I can tell. I’ve never heard you slur like this.”

“It was that last shot, but it was the best one. It tasted like her.”

“Her? The girl you went running after?”

“Yep. That’s the one.”

“Well, I’d like to thank her for bringing my brother back.”
