Yup, I’m going to hell.

Right now, I don’t give a damn because that kiss was heaven.

Dempsey

We kissed.

I still can’t get over it. Her lips on mine felt surreal. A fever dream come true. It didn’t last long, but that kiss was everything to me.

It’s been days since that moment on her back porch.

Each night, I’ve shamelessly stroked my cock to the memory. Her soft breaths of appreciation, how fucking cute she looked in her cozy outfit, the sweet taste of caramel on her tongue.

I’d expected to be pushed away, especially after how shell-shocked she was during dinner after, but she hasn’t. We’ve been texting and I even brought her coffee each morning to surprise her. Tonight, I’ll actually get to see her for Mom’s birthday shindig.

Will I get to kiss her again?

The thought of having her in my arms once more has me willingly dressed in charcoal dress slacks and a black button-down. Since it’s a fancy, catered event at my uncle’s lodge, we’re all expected to dress nice. Knowing Sloane will be there, I’m motivated to look good for a totally different reason.

I’ve been aching to text her more than the friendly correspondence we’ve been having. I want to tell her the kiss was pure fucking magic for me. I’m smart enough, though, to know Sloane is skittish like an alley cat. If I come on too strong, she’ll pull out the claws of her stupid morality and that’ll be the end of it.

Tonight will be especially tricky. With Mom here, I have a feeling Sloane won’t be so cozy with me. We both have our roles to play. In time, however, I’m going to wear that woman down. The chemistry between us is fire and I’ll be damned if I let it fizzle out.

“Waiting for Cinderella to show up at the ball?” Spencer teases as he sidles up next to me.

I shoot him a smirk. “Maybe I’m looking for Prince Charming.”

He laughs, but I know I have his mind twisting and turning. It’s not like he’s ever seen me go after a woman or a guy before. In our family, you never know. I mean, he’s in a relationship where he shares his stepsister with his dad. My other brother knocked up his student and then married her. And my reclusive brother? He found himself a man—his therapist of all people—to fall in love with. Hell, even my dad went and got weird way before all this when he stole my brother’s girlfriend and made her his wife.

Our family doesn’t exactly follow the typical route when love is involved.

Aubrey, Spencer’s stepsister, sashays over to us, a deviant grin on her face. She’s pregnant and will give birth before we know it. That’ll make three babies in the past year to have joined the Park family.

As Spencer and Aubrey flirt, my thoughts turn dark. What if I’m just getting way ahead of myself with Sloane? I’ve fantasized about her for so long. I’m completely, madly in love with her. But she’s barely acknowledged me as a man until very recently. We’ve shared one kiss. Where I’m at a level ten with my adoration for her, she’s at a one or two at best.

I’m going to have to make quick work on getting her on the same page as me.

“Dempsey,” Gemma calls out, waving me over to the massive buffet table that’s covered in appetizers. “Look at this ice sculpture.”

The excitement in her voice reminds me of when we were little kids. I can’t help but be affected by it, making my way over to the sculpture with a grin on my face.

“Cool shit,” I say as I inspect the piece. “Wait? Is that a dick? Mom’s sculpture has a dick on it.”

We both crack up laughing. She’s trying and failing through her giggles to explain it’s a replica of the statue of David.

My phone starts ringing in my pocket. I step away from my sister, quickly answering it in case it’s Sloane wanting to meet somewhere.

“Hello?”

“Mr. Park?”

Okay, so it’s not Sloane.

“Eh, Dempsey.” I pull my phone away from my ear and see a number I don’t recognize. “What’s up?”

“This is Todd Wright at PMU. I’m the dean of the art department.”

“Oh, hey, man.”
