Fuck, it hurts to see this…and to wonder if my friends are somewhere even worse.

“Who are you?” she asks, her voice trembling.

“My name is Aisling,” I reply gently. “Roman sent me. He said you might have something important to share with me.”

Cassie’s eyes widen with surprise. “Oh my god…you’re her?”

I frown. “Who?”

“The omega who got out of Dreamland,” she says. “Who shut the whole thing down. Stargazer.”

I kneel beside her. She seemed so in awe, I don’t know how to tell her that I don’t know how much I can help. “I didn’t know anyone knew.”

“Oh…we all know,” she says. She laughs softly, followed by a cough that seems to wrack her lungs. “You’re like, a legend in my circles. And I met your friend.”

My heart drops. “My friend…?”

“Lark,” she whispers. “At least, I think that was her name. It was hard to remember.”

“Where?”

“That’s what I wanted to talk to you about,” she says. “They sent me to this club from…somewhere else. Some hospital or something. They kept giving me what they were calling medicine, but…I don’t think it was medicine. It made me sick.”

Cassie’s words hang heavy in the air, her frail form trembling with the weight of her revelation. I reach out and place a gentle hand on her shoulder, offering what little solace I can give. “Cassie, you’re safe now,” I assure her. “Whatever they did to you, we’ll figure it out. But first, I need to know where this hospital is. Can you remember anything that might help?”

Cassie’s brows furrow as she struggles to recall the details through her haze of confusion and pain. “It was…underground,” she finally says, her voice barely above a whisper. “There were tunnels…and labs. I remember seeing omegas in restraints, surrounded by doctors in white coats.”

My blood runs cold at the thought of an underground facility specifically designed for experimenting on omegas. It sends a shiver down my spine, reminding me of what Oberon went through when he got sick. Whatever they’re doing to alphas…they’re testing it on omegas too. As if omegas didn’t have enough to deal with. Fuck. This is really bad. “Can you remember anything else?”

“It made our heats happen more often,” she says. “And they kept putting us into these rooms with alphas and they…they hurt us. They were out of control.”

The heaviness of her words settles in the air, a chilling truth that sends a surge of anger through my veins. These underground labs, these experiments—they are taking advantage of the vulnerability and power dynamics between alphas and omegas. It’s a sickening cycle of pain and abuse, one that needs to be broken.

And I need to be the one to break it.

“Cassie,” I say firmly, gripping her trembling hands in mine. “You’ve been through so much, but you’re not alone anymore. We’re going to put an end to this, to the suffering they’ve inflicted on you and others.”

A glimmer of hope flickers in her eyes as she looks at me, her voice barely above a whisper. “Do you really think we can stop them?”

I squeeze her hands gently, trying to convey my conviction through touch. “Yes, Cassie. And…I’m going to try to get you out of here, okay? I’m going to try to make it happen.”

She nods slowly, tears streaming down her cheeks. “Thank you, Aisling. Thank you for believing me.”

I offer her a small smile, a flicker of reassurance amidst the darkness surrounding us. “You don’t have to thank me, Cassie. We’re in this together now. I promise.”

Cassie’s information about the tunnels and labs is invaluable. It gives us a starting point—a place to begin our mission of rescue and justice. But it won’t be easy. The people behind these atrocities are powerful, their reach extending far beyond the confines of this hidden facility.

But I refuse to let fear consume me. I refuse to let them win.

And now, I have confirmation that Lark is alive…and that her disappearance, and the other Dreamland omegas, has something to do with the new drug hitting the streets of Pacific City.

Cassie might need help, but her information could be the thing that saves my best friend’s life.

Chapter seven

Oberon

The neon buzz of the club’s sign fades behind us as Aisling and I hit the pavement. Night clings to the city, dark shadows cloaking the buildings like a giant spider’s web, but the streets are alive, pulsing with the chaos that comes after dusk. Aisling’s hand finds mine—her grip firm, unyielding.
