“Don’t you dare call me that. I’m Olivia and my husband is Paul.” She opened the guest room door and we stepped inside.

“Of course, Olivia. Thank you so much for being so welcoming. I’m really looking forward to spending time with you both tomorrow.”

Mom hugged us both again and Dad waved from behind her in the hallway before they closed the door to the guest room, leaving Levi and me alone.

“Well,” I said, turning to him and tossing my backpack on the bed.

“It’s fine.” He dropped his voice to a low murmur. “I’ll sleep on the floor.”

I shook my head. “Absolutely not. You already take the couch back home. I can sleep on the floor.”

“And what if your mom walks in and catches you sleeping on the floor and me taking up the whole bed?”

I shrugged. “What if she catches you sleeping on the floor?”

He sighed, defeated. “Good point.”

“We can share the bed. It’ll be fine. It’s only two nights. How bad can it be?” I stripped down to my boxers and Levi did the same. When he turned to face me, his whole strong, muscular body on display and practically naked, my cheeks flushed hot. Immediately I looked away. “You get in first,” I mumbled, trying not to think about how he’d looked standing there with his cut abs and chest, trying not to think about how those arms had felt wrapped around me for our wedding-day kiss that I still couldn’t get out of my mind.

Wordlessly, he climbed into bed and under the covers. “All safe,” he said quietly, though I detected a hint of amusement in his tone.

I slipped into bed next to him, trying to put as much space between the two of us as I possibly could. There wasn’t much space to be had before I was teetering on the edge of the bed. I struggled to keep one ass cheek from hanging off the edge and Levi must’ve noticed because he sighed.

“I’m not going to bite if you touch me, you know. It’s a small bed. It’s okay.”

I nodded. “You’re right. Of course you’re right.” I scooted closer and our legs and hips did touch. His body heat radiated up my leg and my body ached to be closer. What was happening to me? I squeezed my eyes shut. “Goodnight.”

“’Night,” he murmured sleepily, and soon his breathing was soft and even, leaving me to lie awake and desperately try not to think about the weird churning in my gut and the way my parents had been anything but surprised when I’d introduced my new male spouse.

Chapter Nine

Levi

Distant sounds in the kitchen woke me gently, and I kept my eyes closed for a few extra seconds, warm and cozy with a weighted blanket across my chest, before it hit me. There was no weighted blanket in the bed with me. There was Soren. I opened my eyes and sure enough, he was draped across my body, his arm over my chest, my arm tucked under his head.

Whoops.

Even though most of our interactions had been awkward, a dance of trying to figure out where we fit with one another, I’d enjoyed having his company that week. Soren was attractive, sweet, and passionate about his work on the theater. It also didn’t hurt that he was attractive—really attractive. He had long, lean muscles, a body built from running and yoga rather than heavy lifting, and a smile that could light up a room.

Besides all that, it was increasingly clear that Soren wasn’t a hundred percent straight. I’d caught him looking at me more times than I could count, usually with fire in his eyes, and his reaction to our kiss had me wanting more every single day. I wasn’t about to be the one to break the news to him, though. What would I even say? By the way, I can tell you want me to fuck you. I suppressed a snort. Not gonna happen.

Soren sighed and snuggled a little closer, burrowing in against my body. In response, my dick twitched, which was my cue. I eased out of bed, sliding my arm from underneath him and managing to stand and stretch without making a sound. Unfortunately, it wasn’t enough.

He startled awake, inhaling sharply, and blinking up at me with his dark brown eyes. “I…” He didn’t finish the sentence. Instead, his eyes widened and his cheeks flamed red. Soren leaped out of bed, yanking a pillow off the bed and pulling it in front of him. “Sorry,” he mumbled. “I had this dream…” With that, he opened the bedroom door and rushed into the hallway, taking the pillow with him.

A moment later, the bathroom door closed across the hall and there was the rush of running water.

“Kids?” Olivia called from the kitchen. “Are you two up?” Her footsteps approached and I pulled my jeans on just before she stuck her head in the bedroom. “Oh, good morning, Levi. Where’s Soren?”

I buttoned my jeans and zipped up, nodding toward the bathroom. “He’s just waking up. Brushing his teeth, I think.”

She nodded. “I’m sure he is. He’s always been very good about hygiene. Oh, I’m sure you’ve noticed that by now.” She smiled warmly. “Can I get you anything?”

I shook my head. “Not right now, but thank you.”

“Okay, well let me know when you’re ready. I’ve got waffles in the kitchen.” With that, she turned and left, calling down the hallway to Paul. “They’re just getting up… No, not yet.”

Once she was gone, I dressed myself, pulling on a clean t-shirt and combing my hair back into my usual man-bun to keep the length on top out of my face. I rummaged through my backpack until I found my toothbrush and toothpaste and waited for Soren to emerge from the bathroom so I could take a turn.
