I shook my head. “No, but let’s go look anyway.” I climbed out of the truck, my stomach doing flips as we picked our way through the debris-littered parking lot. Levi dipped down to haul away the sandbag we’d placed at the back door and give me a way to open it. With trembling hands, I unlocked the door and tugged it open.

Immediately, water rushed out of the service hallway and into the parking lot. I glanced at Levi. “Not a good sign.”

He shook his head. “Let’s keep going.”

We made our way into the building, sloshing through standing water as we headed toward the lobby. Levi clicked on the lights and the hallway illuminated the space, including the flooded floors. I froze and my stomach sank as I looked around.

“This can’t be happening.”

“It’ll be okay,” he murmured. “Let me go out front and take down the plywood. Maybe the glass stayed intact.”

I blinked back tears as he disappeared. Instead of just standing there, I headed upstairs to check out the damage there. There wasn’t any flooding but the windows were all cracked or broken, glass littering the floors, and the furniture was soaked. I stood there, taking it in for several long moments, until I heard Levi call my name.

Back downstairs, Levi stood in the middle of the bright lobby. The windows weren’t broken out, but many were cracked and damaged. The splintered glass glinted in the sunlight. The tears that had threatened to fall earlier came back, stinging my eyes. I rubbed them away with my fists and as I did, Levi came to me, wrapping me in his arms.

“It’ll be okay,” he repeated. “This is fixable.”

“How?” I croaked. “We can’t open on schedule. I’ll have to cancel our inspection. There’s no way we’ll be ready to open by the end of the month. It took me three months to get this far. Now I’m practically back to square one.” The tears finally fell, coursing down my cheeks and I let myself sob into Levi’s shoulder.

He rubbed my back and held me tight until I had myself together again. When I was composed again, he pulled away. “You going to be okay?”

I shrugged. “It just feels like so much work and so much money to throw away.”

“We don’t have to throw it all away. Listen, let’s go home. Get a good night’s sleep. You’ll have more clarity in the morning.”

I nodded and let out a shaky breath. “You’re right. I know you’re right.”

A few minutes later, we were back in his truck rumbling down the road to home. My chest was hollow and empty and I wanted to get my mind off of the theater and the hurricane and think about anything else.

The minute the door to the house was closed behind us, I turned to Levi and kissed him. Startled, he pulled back and looked into my eyes. I sighed, defeated. “I don’t want to think about anything right now. I just want to be with you.”

He hesitated and nodded. “Okay. I can do that.” When he pressed his lips to mine, the knots in my chest unraveled slowly, the tension draining away. Breathing became easier and I pulled him in close, letting our mouths explore one another. We stumbled into the bedroom, still kissing, peeling our clothes off as we went. By the time we collapsed into bed together, we’d left a trail of clothes discarded through the house and were both naked.

We lay next to each other, his hands trailing along the ridge of my back, still kissing languidly. After several minutes, my lips were tender and swollen from his beard, and I pushed him away, climbing on top to straddle him, rocking my hips slowly and letting our cocks slide against one another. Levi looked up at me with his blue eyes, his reddish hair mussed and loose on the pillow around him, and my breath caught in my throat at how perfect he was. I dipped down to kiss him again but instead of meeting his mouth, I trailed my lips down his jaw to his neck and sucked the tender flesh there, worrying a mark into his skin as he moaned and writhed beneath me, fingers tangling in my hair.

I moved lower with my mouth, teasing his nipples one at a time with my tongue and teeth, causing him to hiss and groan, which in turn made my cock throb and pulse precum. As I eased down toward his leaking cock, he whimpered and gripped my arm before hauling me up to kiss him again.

When the kiss broke, I frowned, my brow furrowing. “Is everything okay?”

Levi nodded, his cheeks turning red. “I was thinking… maybe you could top me tonight.”

My stomach churned and fluttered, nerves coursing through me. “Are you sure?”

“I want to feel you inside me,” he whispered, his hands gripping my back tightly. “I’m sure.”

We’d done a lot of fooling around in that room but we’d never fucked, so I didn’t know where to look for supplies. “Do you have—”

“Nightstand drawer.”

I chuckled at his eagerness and opened the drawer to remove a bottle of lube and a loose condom. Before I could do anything, Levi put his hand on my arm. I stopped and dropped my gaze to meet his.

“I don’t want you to use a condom. I mean, if you’re okay with that.”

I bit my lower lip and thought for a moment. I hadn’t been with anyone else in a very long time, and my tests had all come back negative when I’d been tested, which was a few weeks ago. “I’m… I’m negative.”

He nodded. “Me too. I haven’t been with anyone but you since we met and I’ve been tested since then. All good.”

“Okay. Then… let’s do it.”
