“Here we are,” he repeated, taking it all in.

After a moment, I stepped close to him again. “There’s more.” I hesitated, unsure of myself, but forged ahead before my nerves could get the better of me. “I think we should tear up the contract. I don’t want to be fake married anymore.”

“You don’t?” A line formed between his brows as he frowned.

“I want to be with you. For real. Like I said, I’m in love with you and I’m not going anywhere anytime soon, if you’ll have me. I don’t want to be with you only for the contract, but… maybe forever. I want you and I want to give ourselves a real shot at making a relationship work.” I stopped talking and took a deep breath.

He cracked a small smile. “I want that too.”

My chest felt like it was going to burst. “You do?”

“I know it’s soon, but—”

I shook my head. “Most of my friends have done the same thing. When you know, you know, right?”

“I know I love you, too,” he murmured.

My heart felt too big for my chest, and at the same time, I felt light, like I could walk on air. I dipped down and pressed our lips together in a tender kiss and Soren sighed happily and let out a little content hum, opening his mouth to mine.

Our kiss deepened, tongues dancing and sliding together, and as we kissed, someone cleared their throat behind me. I startled and pulled away.

Jared stood behind me, smirking. “Business relationship, huh?”

I gave him the finger. “Can I help you?”

“We’re finished putting the first coat on the bathroom and we need our next assignment.”

Kissing Soren once more, I stepped away, toward Jared. “I’ll be right back. Don’t go anywhere.”

He grinned. “Don’t worry, I’m not going anywhere anytime soon.”

As I walked away, Jared laughed quietly. “You look happy.”

“I’m in love with my husband.”

His eyebrows shot up. “Oh?”

“And it’s mutual.”

Jared patted me on the shoulder once. “I’m really happy for you, man.” His smile didn’t quite reach his eyes, though.

“You’ll find someone,” I murmured. “I’m sure of it.”

He shrugged and we stopped at the bathroom door. “So, what’s next on the list, boss?”

“Maybe we take a lunch break,” I said. “What do you guys think?”

A cheer rose up from the team in the bathroom. Parker high-fived Travis with a dirty grin on his face. “Lunchtime quickie?”

“Do not fuck in the theater,” I said with a scowl.

“Buzzkill,” Parker muttered.

I rolled my eyes and pretended to be annoyed, but in all honesty, I couldn’t remember being happier.
