My stomach dropped to the floor. “Proposed?”

Cam’s face fell immediately and the other three turned to stare at him. “Um… did he not propose yet?”

“He’s going to propose?” I repeated. I knew I sounded foolish but I couldn’t quite process what Cam was saying.

Oliver took Cam by the elbow and frowned. “Well, we should be going. Thanks for the good time. See you at the next game or something.” Nate and Theo followed them, Nate calling out that they couldn’t just leave the two of them behind.

My heart hammered in my chest and my palms were sweaty. I glanced around but didn’t see Levi anywhere. I needed to find him, immediately. It took me another fifteen minutes to finally catch up with him, cornering him near the concession stand. I grabbed his hand and tugged him toward me.

“Hey, babe. What’s going on?”

I frowned, my stomach churning. “I need to talk to you. Alone.”

His eyes lit up. “Taking me up on my offer then?”

“No.” I shook my head slowly. “But we need to talk.”

Levi’s face darkened and he nodded. “Okay.”

I led the way to my office and closed the door behind us, locking it. Levi leaned against my desk, a worry line forming between his brows. “What’s wrong?”

“Is it true, what Cam said?”

The worry line deepened. “Cam? What did he say?”

“That you’re planning to propose. Today, I guess, because he seemed to be under the impression that it had already happened.”

His eyebrows shot up and he stood a little straighter. “Oh. Uh…” Levi rubbed the back of his neck. “Yeah, I guess it is. Fucking Cam, ruining the surprise. Are you… are you mad?”

I shook my head. “I’m surprised but I’m not mad. I just…” I crossed the room to my desk and pulled open the top drawer. Inside was a small box, which I handed to Levi.

He scoffed. “You’re kidding me.”

“Open it.”

I kept my gaze trained on his face as he opened the box to reveal a smooth wooden band, coated in resin and polished to a high sheen. His expression went from confused to tender in a heartbeat. “That’s beautiful,” he breathed.

“My dad made it.”

His gaze snapped up to meet mine. “He made it? Like in his garage?” When I nodded, he looked at it again before meeting my gaze. “How long?”

“How long what?”

“How long have you had this? How long have you known?”

I stepped close to Levi and dropped my voice. “Just a few weeks. It didn’t take him long to make it, and he overnighted it to me. I called him the day after the storm.”

“That’s, like, a week longer than me.” He reached into his pocket and pulled out a similarly sized box. “It’s not fair.”

I couldn’t stop the laugh that bubbled out of me as I took the box from him and opened it to reveal a wide gold band with red stones set in it. “I love it.”

He lifted a shoulder in his trademark half shrug. “I got it the day we were all here cleaning up.”

“You’ve been carrying this around since then?”

“You’ve been carrying yours around longer,” he pointed out.

I pulled the ring out of the box and slid it on my finger. “If you’re asking me to stay married to you, the answer is yes, Mr. Hayes.”
