Sweet fucker.

“Why are you here?” I asked him, trying not to cave so easily. “How did you even find out where I live?”

He sheepishly rubbed the back of his neck. “I kind of searched all the neighborhoods until I found your car,” he admitted. “I know—stalker, right?” A nervous chuckle escaped his lips, and I softened toward him. Why was he so sweet? It wasn’t fair. “I wanted to apologize. Logan and I—we had no right to fight over you like you were some piece of meat or something and not a regular human being with feelings and thoughts.” He held the flowers and box of chocolates out to me, a pleading look entering his blue eyes. “So, forgive me? Please? I need you, Spencer.”

I need you.

God, why did my heart have to flutter at those words?

I sighed, taking them from him before getting up from the recliner to go find a vase to put the flowers in. “I’ll forgive you if you order food,” I teased, giving in—probably way too easily. “I’m starving.”

Ezra followed me, his phone in his hand. “On it. What do you feel like eating?”

“I’ll eat whatever, and I have no allergies,” I informed him. I found one of my mom’s old vases, and my throat closed up for a moment as I stared at it. Dad used to bring her flowers all the time, and this was the vase she always put them in. It didn’t feel right to use it, so I silently put it back and reached for another one—one that was always on the bar at our old house but remained empty. Mom liked it for its swirl of colors, but it had no sentimental value.

I added a little bit of water and placed the flowers in the vase before setting it on the small dining room table in the corner of the kitchen. Ezra set his phone down on the counter. “It’ll be here in about thirty minutes.” Reaching out, he pushed some of my curls out of my face. My throat clicked as I swallowed, flicking my gaze up to his face. “I really like you, Spencer, but even if you don’t return those feelings, I still need you to tutor me. I’m prepared to get on my knees and beg if I have to.”

My lips twitched in amusement, even as my heart went all crazy. “I like you, too, Ezra,” I quietly told him. It meant a lot that he had shown up here with flowers and chocolates, making the effort—however insane it was—to find out where I lived. I licked my suddenly dry lips. “But you should know that I made out with Logan.”

Ezra’s jaw tightened, his eyes flaring with anger for a moment before he smothered it and shrugged. “I can deal with that.”

I snorted. That anger I’d just seen said otherwise. “Really?”

He winced. “Well, it won’t be easy. That’s for sure. But if you like him, too, then okay. You and I aren’t even together. Hell, you only just admitted to liking me two minutes ago.”

I laughed softly and grabbed the chocolates off the counter. “Come on. I want to finish watching this movie.”

“What movie?” Ezra asked, grasping my hand in his and linking our fingers together. Warmth surged through my veins, and my heart skipped a beat in my chest at his touch. I felt safe. Protected.

It was a feeling I could easily become addicted to.

“Jurassic Park,” I informed him as we settled onto the couch my dad had vacated.

“Oooh. They’re my favorite movies. Though Jurassic World is quickly topping them, in my opinion.”

I snorted. “Nothing beats Transformers, Ezra.”

He rolled his eyes. “We’ll agree to disagree, baby.” Leaning over, he hooked his finger under my chin and tilted my head up. My breath hitched in my throat, my brain disconnecting from my body. “I’m going to kiss you, Spencer.” A wicked grin tilted his lips. “Seems only fair I get to taste your sweet mouth, too.”

My lips softly parted in surprise, and then, Ezra was claiming them as his own, his lips smoothly working over mine. He didn’t deepen the kiss any further than that, but I burned just as hot for him as I had for Logan.

I arched my back, pressing myself against Ezra, my lips becoming needier. He groaned and dropped his hand to my waist, digging his fingers into my softer skin. I whimpered into his mouth, and then he pulled back, his chest heaving as quickly as mine was.

“So fucking sweet,” he rasped as he reached up and brushed the pad of his thumb over my lower lip. When he dropped his hand, he pulled me onto his lap, cradling me to his chest. Silently, I grabbed the remote and pressed play, resuming the movie.

“This right here, with you, feels perfect,” Ezra whispered in my ear.

Tingles rushed down my spine, and my face bloomed with heat. I didn’t say a word—just rested my head on his shoulder, enjoying the feeling of being wrapped up in his muscular arms.

I refused to think about what any of this meant.

CHAPTER 9

Logan

TUESDAY

I was in a foul mood. Spencer ignored all my texts and calls, though Ezra sure did enjoy posting a pic of them together on social media.
