Taming the wild cat that was Stella is going to be harder than I thought.

Already two times in the night I've caught her trying to get out of the bed. It's not that she's scared but confused by what's going on with us. I already know. I knew it from the minute I found out she was the mother of my child and the way she purred at me when I slid into her raw for the second time in my life.

She's mine.

I have the patience to do what it takes to show her that I'm serious about not letting her go even if it's against her own will. I'm hoping that it's not that hard to convince her but then again it doesn't matter to me.

Her bed isn't the most comfortable and I find myself having to readjust positions at least once every few minutes. I know she's doing her best with what she has but I've got her now. This house is unacceptable. The furniture, hell even the paltry amount of clothing she has needs to be upgraded. Now that I'm here I'm going to make sure that the both of them have everything that they need.

My back spasms and Stella shifts under my arm. With a soft groan, I pull her closer and turn so my arm is now draped over her.

My eyes slide closed as I try to get a few more hours of sleep. It's been so long since I could just sleep.

A silent sharp pain slices through the underside of my arm and pops out through the top.

This is beyond ridiculous now, Stella should know better than to try and hurt me in order to leave.

"Ow... what's that. What... What..." Stella grumbles through her sleep. A millisecond later the low grumbles turn into a high-pitched scream. Quickly I slam my hand over her mouth but the pain in my arm is still highly distracting. I use my other hand to swipe the wound.

It's a gunshot.

"Shit!" I move my hand from her face and can feel the blood before I see it. She's hit. "No, no, no," I mutter and feel around her face and head for a wound. There's a very superficial one above her ear. A slight groove combs through her hair with a hole entering the pillow below her. The bullet went through me and just grazed her.

"Am I going to die?" She whispers looking up at me, I shake my head immediately.

"No, it's only a scrape. The bullet went through me first." I explain.

"Who...?"

I cut her off before she has a chance to finish her question. There's no time for questions right now. I need to get both Stella and Chance to safety. I knew I wouldn't be the only assassin coming after Stella. I just didn't think she'd stay alive long enough to have to deal with anyone else besides me.

Grabbing hold of her I pull her down to the floor under the bed even though I know that will do nothing to shield her. I just need to get her out of whoever has her in their sights.

"When I tell you, go get Chance," I whisper to her as I grab my weapons bag from the corner of the room. I pull the curtains closed and scurry back into cover with Stella.

Whoever it is out there must not be very good. If it were me I'd have lit this place up by now. The shooter is looking for a clean shot. By the time he sets up again I'll already have a bullet going straight through their eye.

"Oh god, the baby, what if they..." Stella instantly starts to panic about our little boy in the next room.

"He's fine, there's no clear shot into his room and I don't hear anyone but us in the house." I do my best to calm her down.

Staying down in cover I quickly assemble my rifle and set up a small area. I can see the bullet hole and the trajectory clearly. There's only one place for them to be. "Go now, crawl," I whisper to Stella and she does. Keeping my gun pointed up at where I assume the shooter is in the backyard up in the trees, I slide my body over to the window and snatch the drapes down quickly. It should jar the shooter enough. I just need one fuck up. One small movement in the branches and this is over.

Staying as flush to the floor as I can I slide back to my gun and look through the sights. I can see the tree line and the tree I assume the bullet came from. There's no movement, they must be camouflaged. I'm patient though. I won't rush. This mother fucker tried to take out my girl, there’s no way I'm going to let them live. Taking in a few breaths I keep my eyes on the trees.

The moon makes my job a little bit easier. A bright reflection shines through the darkness. The moonlight against his scope.

"Gotcha." I whisper as I focus on where I saw the spot and pull the trigger.

A dull grunt followed by the heavy object falling from the trees lets me know I was right on the money. I need to go out and find out which one of the assassins is on her tail. More times than not we work alone but there are some like Morren and Liza who have a partner.

"Stella, you got him?" I whisper and get to my feet. My head spins and I have to stop before I take another step. I'm dizzy, my body is going into shock. Grabbing the pillowcase off of one of the pillows I wrap it around the gunshot in my arm. Thankfully it's just a through and through. Once I get the bleeding to stop I can stitch it up and I'll be fine. A cold chill races through my body as I think about the fact that the bullet that sliced through me was supposed to go through her.

"Stella!" I call for her again and when I don't have a response, that cold chill returns. Maybe someone was in the house that I didn't hear. What if they have already killed the two of them?
