"Vittore, Babbo is pulling up. Let's go." Giancarlo spoke through the wood door.

The end was here and it came in the form of Vitto's father.

Twenty-Three

After a few seconds, Vitto and I walk out of the back room just as his father walked in.

The tension in the room is oppressive.

Along with Vitto, Xander, Christine and Giancarlo, there were three other siblings there. Ones I hadn't met yet.

Instantly, I can tell that Vitto and this man are related. They have the same build and the same expression but whereas the older man has dark black hair peppered with a few white streaks Vitto's hair is lighter.

"Nice of all of you to come." His father speaks and everyone in the family walks over to kiss his hand. It's something like a mafia movie and I have to stop myself from laughing. There wasn't anything funny happening here. In reality, my heart was breaking into bits.

His father gazed at me for a moment, his eyes squinting before they widened. "Why is that dead woman in my presence."

Everyone looks at me and I open my mouth to answer but Vitto stops me with a glare. Apparently, this is one of those be seen but not heard moments. My ears feel hot and I grind my teeth so hard my jaw aches.

"There have been a few hiccups in the plan." Vitto comments.

"Of course there was. Once a failure always a failure I see." His father shook his head and continued on to the dining room as if he hadn't just insulted his son. "Come, I'm hungry."

Everyone followed behind the intense man and I fought the urge to put my foot out and trip him. As immature as it sounds, it'd make me feel so much better just to see him fall flat on his face. Elder or not.

"We go over here."

I turn my head to see Rosie. Following her lead, I walk into the dining room and see a small area where I assume everyone who's not in the family is supposed to eat. I've never felt so unwanted at a dinner in all my life. I watch in surprise as Rosie rushes around making sure everyone has what they need. All before coming back to her spot in the corner like a puppy. I can't believe she's so obedient to people that treat her like crap.

I sit in the chair that's given to me and try to focus on the food in front of me. I'm sure it tastes great but I can't think about anything besides the fact that I'm about to lose Vittore. My appetite is nearly non-existent.

"I'm sure everyone here has things they need to address but as you all know, I've made an arrangement with the Caprini family. One that both families have toiled over. The eldest daughter is in need of a suitor and I can't think of a finer match." Vitto's father says.

I tilt my head in that direction trying to catch everything that is being said without letting them know that I'm eavesdropping. This is it. The end.

"Giancarlo, you will be wed in a week's time. I'm sure you'll do the family proud."

My head whipped around so fast I was sure that I heard it crack. All sound after that ceased until Rosie dropped her fork onto her plate. The clang of the silverware started a frenzy of commotion.

"Babbo, I will not. I already have a woman. This is ridiculous." Giancarlo pushed back violently from the table, leaning over to look down at his father.

"You have a whore, but that time in your life is over. You will marry Marie Caprini and solidify the treaty between the two families."

"I fucking won't!" Giancarlo barks back.

"Giancarlo, remember your respect." Christine hisses out and I watch her put a hand on her brother's arm.

He rips it away. "What kind of respect should I show? He comes into my home, eats the food my woman made, calls her a whore and then tells me that I'm going to marry some other bitch I don't know. I'm not going to show any respect for him."

"I see, the problem is this one?"

I squeal in fear as I watch their father pull out a gun and point it in Rosie's direction. "We can settle this one way or another. Either you do your duty and marry Marie or I'll shoot her in the face and you won't have to worry about choosing who to be with."

"Babbo, I'll do it. I'm free and clear..." One of the other brothers I don't know speaks up.

"I don't want you to do it. I've made my choice. Giancarlo is the eldest and he's been living his life the way he deemed fit for as long as I will allow. It's Bianucci blood that runs through his veins and as long as I'm alive he will do as I command. What's your choice, boy." He turns his eyes back to Giancarlo, his gun still trained on Rosie.
