I looked away, pulling my waffles from the grill and onto a plate so I wouldn’t focus on how sexy Holly sounded when she ate my food.

“What are your plans for the day?” Holly asked.

There was a dollop of whipped cream on her nose. “You have a little something right there—”

“Oh,” Holly said as she blushed, grabbing a napkin and dabbing at it.

“Here, let me,” I said as I rounded the counter and swiped the whipped cream with my finger, then licked it.

Her eyes dilated. “Thank you.”

“Anytime.” I stood closer to her, contemplating whether her lips would taste like strawberries or whipped cream or a combination of both.

Instead of retreating to the other side of the counter, I reached over to grab my plate, pouring whipped cream and strawberries on top. I picked up the waffle like Holly had and took a bite. “I feel like a kid eating with my hands.”

“It’s more efficient this way.” Her cheeks were rosy, her eyes bright.

Was she thinking about what it would be like to kiss me? Was she thinking of all the ways we used to explore each other’s bodies and how it would be different now?

I nearly groaned out loud. There was no chance she was thinking about anything sexual.

We finished our waffles, and I topped up our coffee mugs. I hoped that she’d stick around, but I wasn’t sure how to get her to stay.

“Would you like to—” I said at the same time, she said, “What are your plans—”

Holly smiled, and I waved a hand at her. “Go ahead.”

“What are your plans for the day?”

My heart thumped hard in my chest. “I was hoping I could show a certain someone special the ice rink on the farm.”

“Sebastian sure made a statement bringing in an ice rink for Hanna.”

“I can’t believe Sebastian finally made a move. We suspected Hanna liked him for a while now, but he seemed oblivious to it. Even when we pointed it out.”

“Maybe he wasn’t ready to pursue anything.”

“That could be it. He was busy with Ember when her mother, Brandy, left, and then he built the cabin here.”

“It’s the perfect timing, then.”

“I would have thought so, but then Sebastian asked us to keep their new relationship a secret from Ember.”

“I don’t have kids, but I would think you’d have to be careful about introducing a new relationship.”

“Hanna’s been a family friend for years. She lives with him, and she’s helping to care for Ember. It seems like the next logical step.”

Holly frowned. “True. But we can’t say what’s best for them in their relationship.”

I had a feeling we were talking about more than just Sebastian and Hanna’s relationship. “You might be right. But the entire family is going to the ice rink. Would you like to join us?” Maybe if I couched it in terms of the family, and not an outing with me, it would be easier for her to accept.

I grabbed my phone and scrolled through the pictures until I found one I’d taken yesterday when we were helping Sebastian decorate it with lights.

“That’s amazing. What a great location for a date.”

“I thought ours was pretty special, too.” We’d watched a lot of movies when we were dating, solely due to the fact that we were kids and there wasn’t much else to do. It also allowed for private time together at her house, where my brothers couldn’t interfere.

“It was perfect for us,” Holly agreed as she took my phone and scrolled through more pictures of the ice rink.
