“I can see that.” It was in much better shape than the one I’d worked with in classes since so many students used it.

While I examined it, Talon and Owen talked about his work. It sounded like they were good friends. I was glad he had someone outside his family. But then, he must know many industry insiders.

“So, what do you think?” Owen finally asked me.

“How much do you want for it?” My stomach twisted. It was too good to be true. A kiln that had been lovingly taken care of and everything I needed to get started today if I wanted to. It was in such good shape, there was no way I would be able to afford it. I braced myself for the number.

“Two hundred dollars,” Owen said seriously, his expression sober.

My eyes widened. “There’s no way this is worth only two hundred dollars.”

“Listen, you’re doing me a favor. Most artists want a new kiln. I don’t have much of a market for used ones.”

I didn’t know enough about the market for kilns to know if he was telling me the truth, but Talon trusted him. “I want it.”

It was too good of a deal to pass up.

“Great. I’ll put it in a box so you can take it home.” Owen grinned before disappearing into yet another room.

“Are you happy?” Talon asked me.

“It’s such a good deal. And it’s everything I want.” If I thought about everything I wanted, Talon took up the space in my head.

“Now you can create something for Marley’s tree.”

“I don’t know if she’ll want what I’m thinking about, but I’d love to try it. I’ve been wanting to do this for years.”

“We’ll take it back to my shop and get everything set up. Do you need to pick up anything from your place?”

I loved that Talon got me. He knew that I wouldn’t be able to rest until I tried out the kiln. “I need a few things.”

I paid for the kiln, and we loaded it into the bed of Talon’s truck, then we stopped at my place before heading to the farm. There was a small line to the farm when we arrived, and when we reached the gate, Heath greeted us.

“What are you two up to?” He leaned down to talk through the open window.

Talon threw a thumb in my direction. “Holly found a kiln in town. She wanted to hook it up at my shop. It requires an oxygen and fuel hook-up that she doesn’t have now. She’s eager to get started.”

“Is that right?” Heath asked, and I swear he could see right through us. He knew that this new relationship wasn’t entirely about moving away from our past, but moving toward something else. I just hoped he didn’t warn Talon away from me. I wasn’t ready to let him go.

“Talon found the used kiln at his buddy’s shop.”

“Owen?” Heath’s gaze shifted to Talon.

“We got lucky that he had a well-loved kiln in his collection that was just the right price for Holly.”

Heath checked for cars behind us, and seeing none, he returned his attention to us. “Marley said she’s going to decorate a tree with your ornaments at the inn so guests can purchase them as gifts.”

Surprise flew through me. “I didn’t realize she was going to do that. I thought she was decorating one at home.”

Heath shook his head. “This one is near the front counter so guests can see it as they come and go.

“I hadn’t even thought of doing that.”

“That’s genius. I would think she’d sell a lot of the inn ornaments,” Talon said.

“She’s excited about this new project. I’m sure she’ll love to hear that you have plans for new ornaments.”

“I’d better get to work if I’m going to have enough to keep her and your mom in stock.”
