“All-consuming.” Amazing. I couldn’t quite land on a word that sounded right. It was all of them at once.

I didn’t want to move, but we were going to be late. “We need to get ready.”

Holly sighed, her breath fanning my face as she lifted herself from me, and then stepped onto the mat. When I built the house, I never thought about someone sharing the bathroom with me. But I had every comfort you could imagine, from the radiant heat flooring to the towel warmers. Now I was grateful that Heath had insisted on those additions when we were designing the space.

I never thought that Holly would be with me. That we’d move past the hurt and regret and forge a new relationship. It was more than I ever could have hoped for. I just wished that we could slow down time because I had a feeling it wouldn’t last. Holly and I hadn’t before. Why would we now?

I released the drain and stepped out of the tub. Holly handed me a towel, and I wrapped it around my waist.

I tugged Holly close, reluctant to leave the warmth of the bathroom, the air still sweet from our lovemaking.

Her hands played with the knot at my waist. “I wish we had more time.”

I stilled the movement of her wrist. “If you do that, we won’t leave.”

She arched a brow. “Is there something wrong with that?”

“On any other night, no. But tonight, we have plans with my family.” It pained me to tell her no. I wanted nothing more than to let her sink to her knees and take me into her mouth. My cock was already tenting the towel. “Be good.”

She winked, and the naughty movement went straight to my dick. “Later,” I said as she turned to go into the bedroom, then smacked her butt. She squealed before she hurried into the other room.

I quickly dried off, then grabbed clothes from my closet in the bathroom.

When I moved into the bedroom, Holly was already dressed, her hair damp over her shoulders as she looked at her phone.

My heart contracted in my chest. I didn’t expect us to get to this place so soon. I was rapidly developing big feelings for her, deeper than anything I’d felt before.

She looked at me and smiled. “Are you done in there? I’m going to dry my hair.”

“It’s all yours.” It didn’t take long for Holly to fill all the spaces in my home and my heart. All I could do was trust that we were meant to be together and we’d figure everything out. That we wouldn’t let anything come between us again.

Chapter 18

Holly

On the short drive to the main house, my heart was thumping, and there was a roaring in my ears. I couldn’t get Emmett’s disapproving expression out of my head even though Talon assured me his family was okay with everything that happened.

When we parked in front of the house, there were already several trucks. Everyone was already here.

“Come here,” Talon urged as he grabbed my wrist and tugged me closer. “It’s going to be fine.”

I nodded against his chest, not quite able to believe him.

“I’m going to be right by your side. Besides, you have your heart to show Marley.” Talon had carefully wrapped the heart in tissue paper.

His words eased some of the tension inside me. “Let’s get this over with.”

I was able to work with the Monroe family, but this was different. I was walking into his mother’s house as Talon’s girlfriend. That might spark different emotions. Despite Talon’s reassurances, I wasn’t sure how they’d react.

Talon opened the door without knocking. His family was loud, and it was more overwhelming than usual.

Addy and Ember were playing with a dollhouse in the front room, and the rest of the family was gathered in the kitchen.

“There you are. We thought you weren’t coming,” Heath said, as he slapped Talon’s shoulder. Then leaned into whisper, “I thought you’d be too scared to show your face.”

Talon snorted as he curled his fingers around mine. “I’m not afraid.”

The gesture was comforting to me but also sent a powerful message to his family. We were here together.
