He laid her on the bed as gently as he could, swallowing a groan at the sight of her there, pink hair spread across the pillow, her eyes soft with need. She reached for him and he had to turn away to stop himself from falling on her.

“Before we do this, I have to explain,” he told her.

“Explain it after,” she whispered, crawling to him and climbing into his lap.

The warmth of her soft thighs wrapped around him and the sweet scent of her hair nearly did him in.

“Olivia,” he murmured, cupping her cheek in his hand.

She was so small, so soft.

“Do you know what it means to be someone’s mate?” he asked her gently.

She shook her head, her eyes on his now.

“A mate bond is not to be taken lightly,” he told her. “A mate bond is for life.”

“Like a marriage,” she said, nodding.

“A Terran marriage can be broken,” he told her, shaking his head. “You can’t change your mind about a mate bond. You can’t break it and you can’t retreat from it. If you accept my bond, it will be forever.”

“Forever,” she repeated.

“I will always crave you,” he told her. “You will always long for my touch and my protection. The pull we feel will only deepen over time.”

“I’ll get to stay with you,” she murmured. “I won’t be alone.”

Her words cut him to the bone.

He thought about his behavior throughout their time together - how gruff he had been, how unfeeling. Of course he had longed for the child that she would provide. That was why they both were here. But she had longed for a family too.

He could feel the impossible ache of her loneliness through the tentative bond that already pulled them together.

“You will never be alone again,” he promised her. “And we will have a family so big and boisterous, there might never be another moment of quiet.”

She laughed, tilting back her chin and exposing the delicate column of her neck. He couldn’t resist pressing his lips to that tender flesh. Her nails sank into his shoulders, a delicious bite that zapped his already overcharged libido.

“Olivia,” he groaned, pulling back. “Is that a yes?”

“Seriously?” she asked him, her eyes twinkling.

“Don’t tease me, Terran,” he warned her.

“Yes,” she laughed. “Yes, yes, yes.”

He fell back on the bed, pulling her on top of him.

“There’s one more thing,” he told her. “What’s about to happen is called a mating frenzy. It will go on for days.”

“Days?” she murmured, her eyes on his lips.

“We will be in its thrall,” he told her. “The mate bond will tighten around us each time we surrender to it.”

Her eyes widened and she let go of him to cradle her belly protectively.

“No, love,” he told her gently. “This won’t hurt ourlittle one. The baby will thrive as our bond grows stronger.”

Her face lit up and she let go of her belly to caress his face.
