Page 62 of Finding Ava

Cap carried Ava into the elevator at his place in Chicago and hit the button for the top floor.

Scope, with Tex’s help, had delivered the message to both Beijing and Moscow that their attempts to steal US secrets hadn’t panned out. Holland and Mann had gone back to New Orleans to look for Olivia.

Wolf, Abe, Dude and Benny had flown home to San Diego from Minneapolis. Cap was more than grateful for their help and promised he’d be there should they ever need him.

It was just Cap, Scope, Ray, and Marshall. Cap asked his men to stick close for the next few weeks and they all agreed.

He had a doctor coming to look at Ava in a little bit. Until then he agreed she could have a shower as long as she didn’t get her stitches wet. She’d smiled at him and said she’d take a bath.

“I’ve been wanting in that bathtub since I saw it,” she told him with a gamin’s smile. He decided to join her.

He locked the elevator doors so no one could enter his apartment and then he made his way to the bathroom. She was lying in the tub, soaking, head resting on the built-in rest. Her eyes were closed and she didn’t have her earbuds in.

Cap took his clothes off and strode to the bathtub. He wouldn’t lie, the tub had sold him the space.

He carefully lowered himself into the steaming hot water and watched another smile break across her face. But she didn’t open her eyes. What she did do was run her leg up and down his.

He wanted her like hell on fire. Did he have time before the doctor arrived? He glanced at his tactical watch and decided that, yes, he had just enough time to bring her the pleasure she deserved.

Her poor face was bruised all over but at least the swelling had gone down a little in her eyes. Her cheekbones were blue and purple and her lower lip was split. Her hair was floating in the water all around her, a black, silken cloud.

He grabbed her hips and pulled her toward him, placing her legs on either side of his. His cock rose between them, desperate for relief. But this was about her. She finally opened her eyes and the languorous look in them had him breathing heavy. She came up on her knees, the tips of her breasts brushing his chest.

He took a deep breath and tried to settle himself. She refused to let him, instead, cupping his face in her hands and then bending down for a kiss. Ava ran her tongue along the seam of his lips and when he parted them she dove in, sweeping her tongue into his mouth and withdrawing in a wicked game of chase.

He let her play, loving that she felt safe enough to do so. So much had happened to her the last twenty-four hours, he was amazed she even wanted to kiss him. This woman was resilience and strength and never had he wanted anyone more than he wanted her.

“I love you,” he told her as she kissed down his neck and across his collarbones.

She raised her head and cocked it.

“I love you,” he mouthed.

She folded her hand into the sign for I love you.

He smiled at her and pulled her onto his chest. She settled against him and the heat that had been between them calmed a bit. It was a blessing to be able to hold her and that was enough for now.

He did wash her hair for her, careful of her stitches. She got all the blood off of her. He did the same and when they were finished, he helped her stand up. He dried her off careful of her injuries and then picked her up and sat her outside the tub.

Cap dried off and then once again pulled her close, leaning down for a short kiss. She tried to pull him down for more but he knew the doctor was coming, and while he’d been prepared to love her earlier, they didn’t have enough time for all he wanted to do.

They both dressed in t-shirts and sweats. Ava put in her earbuds and winced a little as she did so.

“Are they hurting you?” he asked.

She nodded. “Just a little.”

“When the doctor leaves, you can take them out,” he responded.

She nodded again.

Cap headed out to the living room area and took a look at the monitors. It looked like the doctor had just arrived. He went over to the elevators and unlocked them. Within five minutes the doctor was standing at his door.

The doctor looked Ava over. “Whoever stitched your head did a great job. Your eyes are losing the swelling and are reactive to light. It looks like you took a helluva beating, but you look good in spite of it.”

Ava thanked the doctor, who gave her some pain pills and a cautionary word about headaches, double vision and going to the doctor should either happen. She assured him she would let Cap know so he could get her somewhere asap.

Then it was just Ava and Cap again…all alone.
