He scratched his head, looking bewildered. If I needed a reminder that drinking didn’t solve anything and only made the situation worse, this was it.

“You didn’t say if I could kiss you again.”

“Get in the car first and…may-maybe.”

He smiled and straightened up. “Lead the way.”

He wobbled with each step, couldn’t walk a straight line if he was asked. I couldn’t bear his weight, though, so he had no choice but to stumble his way to the car. I unlocked the door, and he sat.

“Now put your legs in.”

Griff grabbed my hand and yanked. I lowered my head just in time to avoid smacking into the doorframe and losing my balance. He tumbled onto his back, and I fell on top of him. Griff slipped his hand into my hair and tugged me down until his mouth was against mine. Almost as quickly as he’d kissed me, his mouth was gone.

“Why doesn’t your kiss feel like a worm’s been in my mouth?”

I shook my head. I couldn’t take anything he said to heart. He was drunk and not making sense.

I shoved off his chest and backed off his long, solid body. He was hard all over. What would it feel like to lie in the arms of a man like him for the whole night? Not just lying but riding…kissing…licking…sucking.

Snap out of it.

I jerked my head back, lifted his heavy legs, and helped him maneuver them into the car. The feat left me breathless. I was practically the size of one of his legs. Spawn of giants that was wreaking havoc in my life.

“Griff, I need your address.” I pulled out of the parking lot. I checked the rearview mirror to see he was okay. Just to ensure he’s not throwing up all over my back seat. Why else would I care about a grown man getting drunk?

I frowned. He always treated me the worst when he was drunk. Griff was the opposite. Sweet, affectionate, and cuddly. But he’d started that way too.

Griff slurred his address between loud burps. I winced and set off. The

sooner I got him home and safe, the sooner I could return to bed. I covered my mouth to stifle a yawn and took a peek at the back seat again. Griff looked like he’d passed out. I let out a sigh.

Please sleep until we get there.

Crackerjack, how would I wake him up when we got to his apartment? I mulled it over all the way to the address where he lived and still had no solution when I pulled up in front of the building. I parked and took a deep breath. This side of town wasn’t exactly the Upper East Side. The building looked well kept, but who knew what lurked in the shadows? A shiver crept along my spine as I stepped out into the night. And it wasn’t because I was only wearing my Captain America pajamas.

“Griff.” I shook his shoulders. “Griff, wake up.”

He muttered something, turned, and practically fell off the seat. He jerked up and smacked his head on the roof.

“Fuck!” he growled.

I winced. “Ouch. If you climb out of the car, we can get inside, and I’ll put ice on it.”

If I could find a stepladder to climb him.

“Scottie?” He smiled, reached out a hand, and caressed my skin. “A man’s face shouldn’t be this smooth.”

I frowned and brushed his hand away. Forcing down the blush I felt coming on, I averted my head. “You’re a difficult man to deal with when you’re drunk.” Not that he was much better when sober.

I stepped away from the car. Griff climbed out and slammed the door shut.

“I can’t believe you really came,” he said.

“Why wouldn’t I?” I rocked back on my heels. “You can make it inside okay, can’t you? Because I should get going.”

He could ice his forehead himself. Going inside with him might not be the smart thing to do.

“I’ll follow you.”
