But I can’t help but worry about how it will affect Navy. When his aunts and uncles have children of their own, they’re likely to spend less time with him. They won’t love him any less, but he won’t be the baby receiving all of the love and attention anymore. He’ll have to share the spotlight. And when it comes down to it, they’ll prioritize their own kids first. As they should. It’s only natural.

“Gavin selected a head chef for Omnivore Tavern,” Willa says. “His name is Sebastian Powers, and he’s been living abroad for several years.”

Sebastian? My body instantly responds to the name. My heart rate kicks up a notch and my skin grows clammy. I suck in a deep breath, trying to regain control. There are lots of Sebastians in the world. It’s unlikely to be my Sebastian.

“What’s he look like?” I try to remain calm but my voice comes out squeakier than usual. Winnie and Willa both give me strange looks.

“You can meet him in just a moment,” Willa says. “He’s headed this way.”

She beams at someone over my head at someone moments before there’s a tap on my shoulder. Winnie and I turn at the same time to face the man behind us.

It’s him. I stare at him, frozen in place.

“Wren, is it?” A broad smile stretches across his face. “You’re a hard woman to find, though it’s not hard to find a woman with your face.” He nods at my sisters. “Hello, again, ladies.”

I lick my lips nervously and his eyes darken at the sight. “How did you know that I’m Wren?” I ask, my voice hoarse.

He chuckles, a low, breathy sound that resonates through my entire body and makes me shiver with the memory of his touch. “When I met Winnie today, she had no idea who I was. I had a hard time believing you could have forgotten me entirely, so when Willa mentioned that you used to fill in for Winnie for parties, I put the pieces together.”

“Oh,” I say, mulling over his words. “But… just now, how did you know which one of us was me?” Winnie and I are both wearing our hair twisted neatly at the base of our necks, and we were sitting with our backs to him. So, he couldn’t have seen my red lipstick or her baby bump. From behind, we’re as identical as two people can possibly be.

He shrugs. “I don’t know how to explain it. It’s like it was when we met before. Like an invisible string ties me to you.” My heart thunders in my chest. That means he passes the Triplet Triple Threat Test. And my sisters and I have always said that any man who can pick us out of a McAllister sister lineup is the man we will marry.

Out of the corner of my eye, I see Winnie mouth to Willa, “He just knew it was her!”

Willa shakes her head, narrowing her eyes at Sebastian. “You said you’d never met Wren?”

“I have,” he says, never taking his eyes off of me. “I met her six years ago, but she told me her name was Winnie.”

Winnie gasps, and I know she’s done the math and put two-and-two together. With her police background, I’m not surprised she figured it out. “I think the two of you had better go somewhere private to talk,” she says.

Nodding, I reach into my purse and pull out a tube of red lipstick, handing it to her. “You owe me.”

Her eyes widen in fear. “I can’t pretend to be you! What if I mess something up? It’s Avery’s big day.”

“You won’t,” I say, gesturing to the dance floor where Avery and Hunter are glued together, slow dancing despite the fact that the band is playing an upbeat Bruno Mars song. “They’re in a state of pure matrimonial bliss. Just make sure no guests get unruly. If they do, call my assistant. She’ll know what to do.”

Sebastian entwines his hand with mine, and leads me out of the reception hall, to the elevators, and up to his room.

It’s déjà vu, except this time, I’m me. And he knows it. He’s looking at me with… what? Is that love in his eyes? It sure seems that way, but it’s too much to hope for. I’m not sure if I can survive if he disappears from my life again. Deep down, I know I will, if only for Navy’s sake.

I still need to tell Sebastian about his son. Will the love stay in his eyes then? Or will it be too much for him to accept?

Chapter 6

Wren

In the hotel room, we spend a long minute just staring at each other. Sebastian’s dark blue eyes burn into me. They’re so dark, like the ocean during a hurricane.

So dark that they’re almost navy.

I’ve never told anyone, but that’s where my son’s name comes from.

From the color of his father’s eyes.

It’s all I can do not to drown in those eyes.

“It’s been a while,” I whisper.
