I cackle now, doubled over in laughter.

“Look at the facts, Hayden! Look at the facts—” Madeline stands now, walking towards him gesturing wildly. She’s pretty tiny so she strains her neck looking up at him but not backing down. I look towards Elliot who is watching them with eyes wide, like he’s not sure whether to intervene or run away.

“What facts?” Hayden exclaims.

“Oh there just happened to be a couple lost at sea in one movie and a couple stranded on an island in another, but they’re separate stories. Yeah, okay,” Madeline says, her voice dripping in sarcasm.

“But what about everything we learned in Frozen 2?” Hayden questions.

“Frozen 2 doesn’t count.”

“WHAT DO YOU MEAN IT DOESN’T COUNT?” Hayden exclaims in disbelief. “You can't just say a whole movie doesn’t count!”

“Okay, okay, you two! Holy shit, calm down,” I say through my laughter. I stand and pull on Hayden’s arm to walk him backwards towards my room.

“We’ll continue this later, pal,” Madeline shouts as we walk away. I look back to laugh at her and see Elliot pulling her towards his lap with an amused smile on his face.

Once in my room, I close my door and lean against it, sighing.

Hayden throws his head back and lets out a laugh. “I haven’t gotten that jazzed about something in a long time.” He looks down at me, his chest heaving slightly but he’s smiling.

“You’re both insane,” I say, raising an eyebrow. “Arguing about children’s movies.”

He lets out a laugh, “I’m passionate.”

I smile, “I know.” I walk towards him and wrap my arms around his waist. He wraps his around me and twists me so we fall on my bed, him on top of me. He props himself up on his elbows, looking down at me, our legs tangled together.

“Don’t start something you’re not going to finish, gringo,” I say, and lean up to kiss him. He kisses me back, the kiss full of heat and longing.

“I don’t want our first time to be with your best friend and her boyfriend right outside the door,” he murmurs against my lips.

“I’ll be really quiet,” I whisper, kissing him again.

He groans and rolls off of me. “You’re going be the death of me, Ana Reyes.”

I roll on my side and press up against him, “What do you want, a five star hotel with rose petals everywhere? Some kind of string quartet playing outside the room?”

He turns to face me, lifting his hand to stroke my face. “We’ll know when it’s the right time.”

I look at him, at his sharp jawline and defined brows over his bright eyes. Beautiful. “Té adoro.” I sigh. I adore you. The words slip out before I truly even know what I’m saying.

He looks at me for a moment, hand still cupping my face before he says, “Té amo.” I love you. My eyes widen, lips parting.

“Do you…do you know what that means?” I breathe.

“Té amo, Ana Reyes.” His pronunciation is terrible but I’ve never heard anything more beautiful. The emotion that wells up inside me takes me by surprise. My chest feels tight and achy. I feel almost like I want to cry. I can’t remember the last time I cried. I never cry. He searches my eyes. His expression is confident, but also nervous as he waits for my response.

“It’s too soon for you to know that. We’ve known each other for just a couple of months,” I whisper.

“I knew it the moment I crashed into you with my skateboard. The moment I first heard your voice. The first time I saw you smile. The moment you walked away from me. I knew it the first time you told me your name, the first time you kissed me. I’ve known it this whole time, Ana.”

I watch him breathlessly. His thumb brushes over my lip as he continues to search my face.

“I love you too, Hayden,” I whisper, the words spilling out before I can stop them. But I know without a shadow of a doubt that I’ve never spoken anything more true. His eyes widen, a huge grin spreading over his face. He rolls back over me, supporting himself again with his elbows, but both of his hands cupping my face as he holds me tenderly. He leans down and presses the sweetest kiss to my lips before pulling away.

“Do you feel that?” Hayden whispers.

“Feel what?” I breathe.
