Suddenly, the hairs on the back of her head stood up when she sensed another wolf nearby. A tall, almost black wolf appeared through the trees. He wasn’t aggressive, so while Olivia stayed on guard, she didn’t run or bare her teeth. Then, all of the sudden, the wolf shifted into human form.

“I thought that I found your scent,” Zac said.

Zac

Zac stood outside, staring up at the clear blue sky. The sun was shining, and the temperature was perfect. It wasn’t too hot or too cold. Checking his watch, he realized that the next meeting was about to begin. The thought of being caged up inside the conference room listening to people prattle on was enough to make his soul shrink in terror.

Elder Ivan came out and looked at the surrounding forest. “Beautiful, isn’t it?”

“Gorgeous,” Zac said.

The old man clapped Zac on the back and said, “Well, let’s get to it. The ladies want to present their ideas for the next feast and ball.”

“I think I’m going to take the day off,” Zac said. “Tami can take all the notes, and I’ll take care of anything that I need to later. There is nothing that is going to be said in that meeting that hasn’t already been said at least twice.”

“You’re the alpha. It’s your duty to be there,” the elder said.

Zac stared at the man and said in a quiet, deadly calm voice, “Don’t presume to tell me what my duties are.”

Elder Ivan looked at him and nodded. The old man turned and went back inside, looking back at Zac over his shoulder before he entered the building.

Rubbing his face, Zac hated the idea that the elder felt disrespected. However, they did need to remember that he was the alpha. On top of that, he had already warned them that he was done with excessive meetings.

The forest screamed his name. Every cell in his body felt its call. With a huge grin, he headed for his favorite spot to shift. As he put the bag full of clothes in the tree, he saw that someone else had taken advantage of the same secluded place.

Good for them, he thought. Then, he caught the scent. Olivia. Olivia was somewhere in the forest.

She had meandered through the forest, eventually reaching the clearing near the creek. It was a beautiful spot where the flowers bloomed in glorious colors from late spring to the early fall.

Olivia whirled around when she sensed him. She was stiff and the hairs on her neck stood up, but she didn’t advance, growl, or run as he slowly approached her. The exquisite white wolf watched his every move.

He shifted and said, “I thought that I found your scent.”

Olivia visibly relaxed and shifted.

“I had no idea that you were a shifter,” she said. “I should have sensed it when we first met.”

“You were busy learning how to be a waitress,” he said.

Zac couldn’t take his eyes off of the naked woman who stood in front of him. Her tanned body glowed in the sunlight. She had perfectly rounded large breasts, flat stomach, and the sexiest pair of legs he had ever seen. Olivia was by far the most gorgeous woman he had ever seen. He instantly pictured her body pressed close to his as he explored her silky-smooth skin, making love to her. He could feel his body start to respond to his thoughts as his cock twitched.

He must have been staring too long because she blushed and crossed her arms over her chest. Zac deliberately walked over to the creek and walked in. The rocks were slippery, and he had to concentrate to keep his footing. In spite of the warming sun, the water was cold, which was exactly what he needed.

“Would you have agreed to go out with me if you had known that I was a wolf shifter?”

Olivia shook her head and said, “No. I don’t know how long I’ll be in town, and I don’t want to start anything with anyone.”

“Why did you come to Angel’s Creek? It’s not a common destination on the map,” Zac said.

She stiffened and then said, “I just got out of a very bad relationship and needed a change.”

Zac turned around and studied her face. He was sure that there was more to her story, but he wasn’t going to push. She wouldn’t tell him, anyway, and it would just make her clam up even tighter. He decided to leave the date issue alone, too.

“How did you enjoy your adventure this morning?” he asked.

“It’s beautiful out here,” Olivia said. “We don’t really have any mountains where I come from. There are some mesas and buttes, but nothing like out here.”
