“Thanks for saving my bacon,” she said again as she dressed.

“My pleasure. Do you want me to walk you the rest of the way to your car?”

“I’ll be okay. She won’t take me by surprise next time,” Olivia said.

She had just enough time to shower and get to Howlers’.

“I had an interesting experience when I went for a run,” Olivia said.

Jade groaned and said, “Please tell me you didn’t go alone.”

“I did. I met Marsden,” Olivia said. “She offered to show me some place even more beautiful than the creek.”

“Please tell me you didn’t agree to go with her,” Sean said.

“No. I was just going to tell her that I had to go when Marvin swooped in and saved the day. He basically shooed her off and saved my bacon. He told me what she had been up to.”

“She is bad news,” Sean said. “I’ve never seen so much evil wrapped up in one place in my whole life. It seems to leak off of her whenever she’s around.”

“I did get a bad feeling from her, although she tried to seem charming and helpful,” Olivia said.

“That’s the way the devil works. You know the devil is a handsome, charming man, because no one follows ugly and rude – usually,” Jade said.

“True enough,” Olivia said.

Zac was equally upset when he heard about Olivia meeting Marsden.

“I wish you would have called me. Benny knows the number to my office and my cell.”

“I didn’t want to bother you. You are the alpha. You have a pack to take care of. I didn’t want to interrupt anything,” she said.

“You are a part of that pack, now. Please don’t go back out there alone. Marsden has met you and tried to lure you away. Her plans were ruined by Marvin, but that just makes you an even greater target. Once she gets her sights set on something, she doesn’t let go,” Zac said.

Olivia sank into the chair next to him. “Great. I ran away from home to Angel’s Creek to keep from getting murdered. All I’ve done is found someone new who wants to murder me.”

He reached out and put his hand over hers. “We’ll protect you,” he promised.

I hope so, Olivia thought. I’m a little scared.

She didn’t voice her thoughts. She simply smiled at him, kissed him on the cheek, and got back to work.

Zac

Ian came into Zac’s office early the next morning with a smirk.

“What’s that shit eating grin smeared across your face for?” Zac grumbled.

He hadn’t had his coffee yet and wasn’t in the mood to be in the office. A day in the woods, fishing, or hanging out with Olivia would be much more to his liking.

Shutting the office door, Ian slid into the chair across from Zac. He leaned back, laced his fingers together behind his head, and snickered.

“You, my friend, have a bit of a problem on your hands.”

Zac groaned. “I have a shit ton of problems. Which specific problem were you referring to?”

“A love problem,” Ian said. “Tami pulled me aside last night as I was leaving and asked me about you. She said that she was in love with you and wanted to know everything about you so that she could win your heart away from Olivia.”
