Since the doctor had assured them that Olivia wasn’t going to die, her family decided that they needed to get back to Nebraska. Sandra stayed behind a little longer.

“I know you haven’t told your parents everything. Spill,” she demanded eagerly.

Olivia told Sandra how Zac saved her life, not once but twice. “Marsden had some evil plan about taking complete control over the supernatural world and needed a huge supply of shifter blood to do it. She thought my blood would be special because I’m a white wolf.”

“Zac must really love you if he risked his life to save yours,” Sandra said.

“I know he cares about me, but I don’t know if he loves me. I know that I’m in love with him. I’m going to tell him when I get out of here. I guess he’s been too busy to stop in and visit,” Olivia said.

“He, Ian, Sean, and Jade have all been by, along with Benny, Marvin, and a few other people. You’ve made a lot of friends here,” Sandra said.

“You should move down here, too. What do you have in Nebraska that you can’t have here?” Olivia asked.

“I don’t know. I’ll think about it,” Sandra said. “Everyone knows that I helped you escape, even though they can’t prove it, so maybe I will come here and start over like you did.”

Sandra stayed a few more days, and then she had to get back home. She did promise to think about moving to Angel’s Creek, though.

The doctor came in a few days later, smiling. “You are healing very nicely. You’ll be able to go home soon. And the great thing is that the baby hasn’t been harmed at all. I didn’t want to say one way or the other until I was sure, but the baby seems to be perfect.”

“What baby?” Olivia asked, completely confused.

The doctor grimaced and said, “I’m sorry, I thought you knew. Olivia, you’re pregnant.”

“I’m what?”

“Pregnant. You are going to have a baby,” the doctor said.

“I am?” Olivia knew that she sounded like an idiot, but she was in shock. It never occurred to her that she might be pregnant.

“Yes.” The doctor laughed. “Congrats.”

“Thank you?” Olivia said, making the words sound like a question. “When?”

“Judging by the size and development of the baby, you are about a month along. That means that you will be having a little one in about five months.”

“Wow,” Olivia said, rubbing her belly.

“I’ll get you set up on some prenatal vitamins. I’ll help you through it. I suspect all your friends will as well, and hopefully, the father will, too.”

“I hope,” Olivia said.

“The father is Zac,” the doctor said, matter of factly.

“He is. Please don’t say anything. I want to tell him,” Olivia begged.

“Of course,” the doctor replied. “I’ve known him his entire life. He’ll make a great father.”

Olivia laid back in the hospital bed and stared at the ceiling in shock. She touched her stomach again, marveling at the idea that there was a life growing inside of her.

How in the world am I going to tell Zac? The doctor says I’m going to be okay, and by the way, you’re going to be a father.

She was sure that he was going to be as shocked by the news as she was. Olivia acknowledged that she should have thought about it before. They did have sex several times. In the last week, she had been a little sick and was tired a lot. However, she’d chalked it up to stress and more stress.

Jade stopped in to see her before her shift.

“How are you feeling?” Jade asked.

“Like someone ran over me with a mile long freight train,” Olivia said. “At least I’m not in constant pain anymore. The doctor said my face was going to heal fine and there wouldn’t be any change to my appearance. My lung is healing, and my bones are knitting themselves back together.”
