“Then you won’t, sunshine.”

And that is that.

I don’t say another word. I gather her shit and drive her back to my condo. I have to meet with my dad, my director before I make any decisions. Because right now, I’m ready to run the fuck away with her myself.

Chapter

Eleven

HENDRICK

“I’m trying to protect you,” my father grinds out. “That girl is not the one, son.”

“I know that, but she’s pregnant.”

Part of my words are a lie. I don’t know that she isn’t the one. To me, she is exactly that. My one. My only one. She’s just not approved by the family, so she can never be more than what she is right now.

My father’s face turns ashen. I haven’t told anyone, not a single fucking soul since finding out a few hours ago. Usually, I would go to one of my brothers, even my mother, before coming here to him.

But that piss test she took just a few hours ago told me everything I needed to know. And I can’t keep it from him, not right now. He needs to know what we’re dealing with. The little word even appeared on the screen.

Pregnant.

My father leans back in the chair, tilts his head backward slightly, and looks up at the ceiling before he straightens, and his eyes find mine. He levels me with a stern expression on his face, and I know I’m not going to like what he has to say.

“You’re not marrying her. I won’t approve.”

Dipping my chin, I clear my throat. “I know.”

He arches a brow, his eyes find mine, and his lips curve up into a grin. He’s happy that he doesn’t have to argue with me. I don’t blame him. I wouldn’t want to argue either, especially not about this.

“You’ve chosen the girl?” he asks.

“Harlow it is,” I murmur, knowing that this girl is sacrificing her life for nothing. She’s going to be goddamn miserable. She’ll be under lock and key, bred, cheated on, and unloved. I won’t ever be able to love her, not the way I do Allison.

“And the other one?” he asks. “I’m giving you special permission…”

His words trail off. He doesn’t need to say what the special permission is. I already know. This pregnancy should complicate things, but it doesn’t. It just means that Allison and my baby live in the condo, while Harlow lives in a house.

Fuck.

I’m such a dick.

I would hate my father if he did even half of the shit I’m contemplating right now. Looking down at my shoes, I let out a heavy sigh, but if my father hears me or feels any of my concern or upset, he doesn’t show it. Instead, he continues on with whatever he called this meeting for, which isn’t just about Harlow and Allison.

“Now we need to discuss work,” he states.

“Work?” I ask.

I’m not like my brothers. They are selling real estate, making contracts for commercial rentals. They are more business-minded than I am. I’ve been collecting money and running security for the family and the buildings they own.

“I need to know the minute-by-minute whereabouts of your cousin Samson.”

Arching a brow, I watch him, waiting for him to elaborate, but he doesn’t. “Are you saying that you want me to run a private investigation on him?” I ask.

He nods his head with a hum but still doesn’t explain his reasoning. My cousin Samson is my father’s age, his first cousin, and is one of the higher-up executives in the family.

“That’s exactly what I’m saying,” he grunts but otherwise doesn’t say anything else. I watch him, wondering what kind of turn of fucked-up events this is about to become.
