“He will have no choice. His pride would not let him choose you. Not a woman who fucked someone else and made a baby with him.”

HENDRICK

Coleman’s eyes widen as he stares at me from across the living room. He leans back in his chair and lifts his hands to his face, holding his palms against his face before he drops them down and slaps his knees.

“Are you telling me that all three of our women are having babies together? That they’re all going to be the same ages, give or take a few months?”

“I guess,” I say with a chuckle. “Fuck.”

“But your situation is different. What are you going to do?” he asks.

“That’s why I’m here,” I admit.

Coleman shakes his head. “You already gave Dad your answer. Wheels are in motion. There’s nothing to do, is there?”

“No,” I rasp.

Nothing.

“I’m marrying Harlow whoever, and Allison is going to be my secret. My mistress. I even have approval from the director.”

“Dad’s approved that shit?” he asks, letting out a laugh. “That’s fucking rich.”

I agree. It is fucking ridiculous.

“It is,” I whisper. “But it was the only way to keep me completely in line.”

“What happens now with her, with the two of you?”

“A house for the wife, my condo for the mistress.”

Coleman shakes his head as he rests his forearms on his knees and leans forward, lifting his gaze to meet mine. I stare at him, waiting for my big brother to give me his complete and total wisdom.

But he doesn’t.

He doesn’t give me shit, and I can’t even get mad at him for it. This isn’t something we’ve ever done before or been part of. The family is faithful and loving toward their wives. They are their reward, their prize.

But I am not my brothers. I am not like the rest of the family, and that doesn’t sound like a dream to me. Allison is my dream. I don’t care how many men she’s fucked, because I’ve done shit that would send her running away from me.

Running as far as humanly possible.

“That’s a lot to keep up with,” Coleman murmurs. “You may want to rethink that plan.”

That’s the thing. “There is no rethinking that plan, because that’s the only one that keeps Allison as mine.”

Coleman nods, but I don’t think he really has anything figured out as he does that. Then he leans back in his chair. He stands up and walks around the living room, a single circle before he sinks back down into the cushion of the chair again.

“I’m not sure what you want me to tell you to do. It seems as if you and Dad already have a plan in place.”

“Yeah,” I exhale. “Seems so. I honestly don’t know what to say. This whole situation is foreign. I think I just wanted your approval, too.”

Coleman shakes his head. “I can’t give that to you, brother. But I want you to know that I love you. Whatever you choose is the right answer for you. I can’t tell you what that is, though.”

“I both love and hate you for that at the same time,” I announce.
