“Shelby was getting young prostitutes to agree to be taken to a home to be sold to men overseas, either for international government favors and blackmail or to important businessmen for the same purposes. No clue what she was telling them would be happening. But the US attorney general was the one arranging transportation for these women.”

Shifting my attention between them, I can tell they are both shocked as shit. They had no idea that those two were fucking them. And they were not in on it. They are far too telling, hiding nothing as they stare at us slack-jawed.

“She’s not that smart,” Josiah snaps.

Coleman chuckles. “She’s not,” he agrees with the assessment. “But she’s greedy as fuck. I guarantee she was getting money on the side per head she provided.”

“Those heads provided cut into my fucking profit. We’ve been trying to recruit girls, train and ready them for clients. I usually have five each session, but in the past six months, only three have been making it to the end, and the other two have vanished. I assumed they decided they didn’t want to fuck for money and left to go back home to their families or whatever the fuck they wanted to do.”

“They’ve been receiving other offers,” Dad grinds out.

Prisma lifts her hand, slamming it down on the table. All our eyes swing over to her, and I swear to fuck I hear her growl. “Bring me that little cunt,” she hisses.

My father chuckles as he lifts his hands in surrender. “I would like to play the players. That fucker US attorney general can make life for me and my family difficult. I want this skin game when it comes to us to be completely over and done with. It’s your world, not ours.”

“I appreciate that, and the honesty,” Josiah murmurs. “I would love to play that cunt and that asshole. I’ve got plenty on him, but I want to bury him.”

“My guess would be you want to take over his shipments?” Coleman asks.

Josiah grins. “Am I that transparent?” he asks.

Coleman shakes his head. “No, but it’s what I would do if I were in the business. He’s already set up an operation. Why fuck with that when you can make money and have the whole goddamn world in your back pocket?”

My dad grunts. “Maybe we shouldn’t have brought them in on this,” he mutters.

Josiah and Prisma both laugh and the tension is instantly cut. They know that our business has nothing to do with skin. We are not their competition. Never have been, never will be. Prisma sits back down, her anger having dissipated.

“When we have all of this figured out,” she begins, “I want that little bitch. She thinks she can seduce men and make them bend to her will. She has yet to meet the master. I want to show her just who the fuck she is dealing with. Then you can kill her,” she states, flicking her gaze toward Josiah. “And you will kill her.”

He jerks his chin before he shifts his attention back to my father. “What’s next?”

ALLISON

I’m not sure how I feel about this. I should just stand up and walk away. But I can’t. The two women slowly sink down across from me. My best friend and my friend.

I love them.

And now they’re also my sisters-in-law, but I can tell they aren’t happy with me. They probably shouldn’t be. It’s not like I’ve been forthcoming with them about anything.

“So,” Parker begins, “you’re pregnant with Hendrick’s baby, and now you’re married.”

She was at the wedding. I probably shouldn’t be a smart-ass. She has every right to be pissed, but I want to roll my eyes at her observation. I’m not sure why I am so annoyed. I am the one who is in the wrong here.

“The baby is Hendrick’s. There’s only been him,” I say.

Claire laughs softly, and I shift my attention to meet hers, my brows lifting in surprise. “I knew that, Allison. I could tell you were in love with him.”

“I am,” I whisper. “In love with him, that is.”

“I wish you had trusted me enough to tell me what was going on,” Parker murmurs. “I feel like I’ve always trusted you and always given you everything.”

I almost laugh at her because if there is anyone who is a completely closed book, it’s always been Parker. I don’t say that, though. It doesn’t matter. I open my mouth to tell them that none of it matters, that we need to move forward or whatever the fuck we need to do, but my words are completely gone when both of them burst into laughter.

“I can’t even pretend to be mad at you, Allison,” Parker breathes, reaching forward and wrapping her hand around mine. She holds my gaze, her eyes focused on mine as she smiles across the table at me.
