That it’s still standing.

That Harlow and her cronies don’t have any control over me.

HENDRICK

Josiah and Prisma leave, but before they do, they give us all the information on when and where to ambush Shelby and the US attorney general. I am reeling from all this information. I still cannot believe this shit has gone up to that level. That it’s going down the way it is right now.

Although, I should believe it.

I knew this operation wasn’t just a simple little thing. I knew without a doubt that it was all much bigger than I could have ever imagined. Our family usually stays on the down-low. We don’t really get involved in this kind of shit, but the past year or so, we’ve been much busier than usual, which includes the lease and deal with the passport office.

What is going on now is bigger than even that passport office. It’s high-level international shit, and I want nothing to do with it. I want to enjoy my bride, prepare for our baby, eat great food, travel, and fuck until I pass out every single night.

All I want is a simple life.

Leaving my father and brothers, I decide to head home for the night. I can’t stop thinking about fucking my wife, and I’m eager to get home to her. It’s late, and I have some prep to do for tomorrow.

I also have to go over the footage from the house for the day and check on my cousins Tait and Tatum’s comings and goings. It’s a lot of tedious bullshit, and I’m not really up to it, but I’m in the family, and I don’t have a choice.

My family is my life. My life is my family. And that is just the fucking way it is. Even if it means that I’m completely fucking bogged down with work on a daily basis. I’m earning everything the family has freely given to me.

I have quite a bit of shit to do, and somewhere in there, I have to add at least three fuck sessions with my new bride. It doesn’t take me long to get to the condo, park, and get myself into the elevator car. The elevator seems to crawl as it climbs to my floor. I’m not sure why, but it feels like everything is moving around me in slow motion.

The bell dings as the door opens, and I step out into the hall. Looking around, I freeze when I realize that my phone didn’t send me an alert when the front door alarm was disarmed, which means Allison hasn’t made it home yet.

I pause, listening and looking around for anything out of the ordinary. But there is nothing. I can hear the sound of the refrigerator running even though it’s nothing more than a quiet hum. The ice drops in the freezer, but otherwise, it’s quiet.

Taking my phone out of my pocket, I grab my keys with my other hand and turn around, heading back to where I came from. I open the front door and slip outside into the hall before I pull up the tracker I have on Allison.

She’s at her store.

Frowning, I stare at the little blue dot that indicates it’s her phone. No way in fuck should she be there alone. Not after what happened. And as far as I know, she is alone. Slamming my palm against the down button on the elevator, I sink my teeth into the inside of my cheek as I wait impatiently for the fucking car to come back to my floor.

Once it arrives, I step inside and wait for it to go back down. I don’t have time for this, but at the same time, I can’t let her stay there by herself. With everything that’s happened to her, I don’t want her anywhere alone. And while I think she’s probably perfectly safe now that Harlow is taken care of, I’m not ready to risk it.

I thought she was with Claire and Parker, both of whom have men watching them to keep them safe. I should have had someone follow her, too. Fuck, I’m an idiot. I was focused on my own work, on my own shit, and wasn’t thinking about that.

I need to grab my wife and bring her home. I also need to know she’s okay. Going back to the place where she was kidnapped has to be difficult. I can’t imagine why she would do that without me.

It doesn’t take me long to reach the store, and when I do, I’m not surprised to find her standing just outside the front door. She isn’t moving, her body frozen stiff as she stands there looking like a statue.

Wordlessly, I walk up behind her and wrap my arms around her. One around her chest, the other around the front of her belly. Touching my lips to the shell of her ear, I let out a sigh. Her breath hitches, but almost immediately, her body relaxes against mine.

“You have a tracker on me, I guess,” she murmurs.

“You know I do,” I murmur. “Why are you here alone?”

There is a long moment of silence before she turns her head and looks up at me, her lips touching mine in just a slight brush. “I needed to know I could do it.”

“Can you?”

She hums. “I can make it to the front door.”

“Then you’re doing it, sunshine.” Spinning her around, I cup her cheeks and look down into her beautiful eyes. “Tomorrow, we’ll come together. I have a few cousins who will be coming by to discuss working alongside you here. But for now, let’s go home. It’s late.”

Her lips curve up into a smile. “Okay. Yes, let’s go home.”

And we do just that, but not before picking up something to eat on the way. Then I take over the activities for the rest of the evening, which include fucking, eating, and then pure exhaustion. When Allison finally passes out, I head to my office to work. I have about thirty hours of work to get through before I meet with my father again, and I need to get on it.
