Turning my head, I roll to my side and watch him sleep. I expected him to throw up all night long, but he didn’t. He walked into the house, stripped naked, and then crawled into bed, wrapping his arms around me and holding me close.

Except for him not being inside of me, it was perfect. Having him hold me close the way he did, all night long, as if he was afraid I would vanish in his arms felt amazing. He grunts in his sleep, then moans.

I smile and lift my hand, extending my index finger before I glide it down his cheek. He twitches right before he inhales deeply. I watch as his eyes flutter open, then his lips curve up into a smile.

“My head feels like it’s going to fucking explode,” he whispers.

“But was it fun?” I ask.

He hums then cups my cheek. I love the way his strong fingers feel when he touches any part of me, even my cheek. His fingers slide down to my neck and stop in the center of my chest.

“It was fun, sunshine. But I would much rather spend my evenings here with you,” he murmurs as his hand slides farther down, stopping at my lower belly. “And with the baby.”

I grin. “I’m glad for that, but I figure you needed it after you did whatever it was you did.”

“Just to be clear,” he says, “nobody died last night.”

Laughing, I wrap my fingers around his wrist. “I’m glad for that, Ace. All of it.”

He leans forward to touch his lips to my forehead. “Hopefully,” he murmurs, “hopefully, the worst of it is done and over. The people who took you have all been taken care of. As far as I know, there is no threat against you or anyone else. But I will always have an ear to the ground. I will always watch out for you, for our baby, for us.”

“I love you, Hendrick. I love you for protecting me. I love you for loving me. I love everything about you, and I cannot believe that this is real life. Never in a million years did I think I could be this happy. I don’t deserve it.”

He shifts forward slightly, dropping his hand from my belly to wrap his arm around me and pull me closer. I feel my breasts press against his chest, and I can’t help the tingles that slide through my entire body.

I want him.

I always want him.

And I know I will always want him.

“I love you, Allison. And you deserve so much more than me. Don’t ever think you are undeserving of anything. You are everything.”

His lips touch mine, and he kisses me hard, his tongue slipping inside of me, and he tastes me, all of me, the way he always has. The kiss is full of passion, but beyond that, it is full of love. I am full of love.

I’ve never felt full before.

I am bursting, and I never want to go back to the person I was.

Epilogue

HENDRICK

TWENTY YEARS LATER

“No,” I growl.

My daughter, the absolute love of my life aside from her mother, stares at me with those puppy-dog eyes that she knows will give her whatever she wants, but I am not giving it to her. Not this time.

Shaking my head from side to side, I lean forward. “No,” I repeat.

“But, Daddy,” she whines.

A throat clears from the doorway, and I lift my gaze, looking over my daughter’s shoulder to see my beautiful wife standing at the door, her shoulder leaning against the jamb as she watches the exchange, her gaze dancing as it flicks between us.

“Do you know about this?” I demand, my gaze focused on my wife.

She sinks her teeth into her bottom lip, a smile playing on her lips. “She is an adult, Hendrick,” Allison offers.
