As I replay that conversation in my mind, I can’t help but feel a glimmer of hope. It’s as if a bridge has been built between us, one that allows us to see each other more clearly, to understand the depths of our respective journeys.

I know that there will be challenges ahead as we navigate this new dynamic, but I’m determined to support Ryan in any way I can and help him forge a connection with his father.

“Food is ready!” Owen yells, shattering the awkward atmosphere, and bringing us all to the table.

We eat together as a pack, gathered around the table, the atmosphere lighter than it has been in a long time. Laughter and easy conversation fill the air, a collective effort to lift Roarke’s spirits and make him feel better. Moments like these remind me of the strength and unity that defines our pack.

As we share stories and jokes, I steal glances at Roarke, who seems to be slowly shedding the weight of his worries. His smile, though still somewhat tentative, is a welcome sight. I know meeting with Ryan is looming in his mind, and we all want him to be in the best possible mood when our son arrives.

Then, just as we’re about to dig into a delicious homemade meal, the door opens, and Ryan steps in. The room falls momentarily silent as all eyes turn toward him. He looks a bit apprehensive but determined. Roarke rises from his seat, and it’s as if time stands still for a moment.

Their first meeting is a pivotal moment, a chance to bridge the gap that has separated them for so long. I watch with bated breath, hoping that this reunion will mark the beginning of a new chapter in their relationship, one filled with understanding, forgiveness, and love.

Unable to contain my excitement and warmth, I quickly rise from my seat and rush over to Ryan as he enters the room. The moment is charged with emotion, and I can’t help but envelop him in a warm, heartfelt embrace.

“Ryan,” I say, my voice filled with genuine joy, “it’s so good to see you again. You have no idea how much I’ve missed you.” I’m already teary eyed.

“Good to see you, Mom.”

“You’ve gotten so much bigger.” I squeeze his arm. “Stronger too.”

“Part of being a wolf.”

As he smiles at me, I’m so grateful all of this happened. Just because it allows me to get to know my son, and to reconnect with him at last.

“Good to see you, buddy.”

As Owen jumps in, I can’t stop the nerves from rising. How will Ryan feel about me and his best friend in a pack together? In a mating round?

Ryan smiles easily at his friend, seemingly not harboring any resentment at all. I guess they all understand the complexities of being a wolf, right?

“Do you want food?” Owen asks, leading us all towards the table. “I’m quite the chef, you know.”

Sitting down to eat, I can’t help but observe Ryan closely, watching his reactions as we share stories about our experiences in the forbidden forest. It’s clear that he’s still adjusting to the idea of our pack and the unique bond that connects us all, but he’s trying, and that means the world to me.

Ryan’s expression is a bit terse, his emotions guarded, but he’s listening intently to each of us as we take turns recounting our time in the treacherous forest. I can sense his curiosity and perhaps a hint of apprehension, and I’m determined to make him feel welcomed and accepted within our pack.

As I share my own experiences, I try to convey the camaraderie, the challenges, and the moments of triumph we’ve all faced together. I want Ryan to understand that we’re more than just a group of individuals; we’re a family, bound by our shared experiences and unwavering support for one another.

“Ryan,” I say wearily, “you wouldn’t believe that I have been helping out with the fight against The Rift.”

“I remember you talking about The Rift, Mom, but I don’t get what it is exactly.”

“The Rift,” I begin, my tone serious and measured, “is a place that defies conventional understanding. It’s a tear in the fabric of our reality, a portal to a realm where the laws of nature and physics as we know them don’t apply. It’s a place where emotions are both a source of power and danger.”

Lucas, always insightful when it comes to emotions, chimes in, “In the Rift, emotions become tangible, almost like a currency. They can be harnessed for incredible abilities, but they can also consume you if you’re not careful.”

Wyatt interjects. “The Rift can take you on journeys through your innermost thoughts and fears. It can show you wonders beyond imagination or plunge you into the depths of despair.”

Owen adds, “And the creatures that dwell there are unlike anything you’ve ever seen. Some are hostile, others are enigmatic, and a few might even be allies.”

Ryan absorbs this information, his expression a mixture of fascination and apprehension. He’s beginning to grasp the complexity of The Rift and the challenges it poses.

“So, it’s not just a place,” he says slowly, “it’s a force of nature, something that can’t be controlled or predicted?”

“Right,” I agree. “And I have been there, fighting these monsters… sort of. Helping anyway. And I even got sucked into The Rift with Owen… until the others saved us.”

Ryan smiles, looking impressed. I know he’s a wolf, so can understand a lot, but I do get that this is on another level. “Wow, Mom… what do I say? Sounds like you have a good pack around you.”
