I glance over at her. “You should have called me. I can handle the rat tomorrow. And you’re always welcome at the ranch.”

“I know. But we broke up, remember?”

Of course I remember. It’s all I’ve thought about since I left her.

“Plus, you’re busy. You can’t be swooping in and rescuing me all the time.”

I huff out a breath. “I can, actually. Swoop in and rescue you. That’s what I’m here for.”

Her cheeks flush, pink staining her skin, and I squeeze her thigh, reassuring her.

“Thanks, King. I’m a big girl, though. I can handle my bonehead brothers. Been doing it my whole life.”

Unease creeps into my happiness, dulling the joy. Juliet’s brothers wouldn’t be bothering her if it weren’t for me. She only helped with the trial because I asked her to.

I shove the thought away, instead focusing on her curves, the way her smile lights up her entire face when she’s happy.

The way she feels when I’m driving into her, pushing her higher and higher toward release.

The way she quivers on my cock right before she unravels and cries out.

Every muscle in my body’s tight, ready to spring into action, and I can’t get us home quick enough. The radio fills the cab, Dustin Lynch warbling about being a small-town boy.

You should probably talk. Say something, anything. That’s what the whole damn argument was about.

“I missed you.”

She lets out a laugh, a low, throaty sound, sending more blood pumping south.

“We were apart a few hours.”

“A few hours too long.”

“I never thought I’d hear you say something like that. Where’s this romantic side coming from?”

“I can do romantic. And I can definitely do romantic-plus.” I inch my hand toward the V of her jeans, seeking her heat. A tiny moan escapes her lips as I slide my hand between her thighs. She presses against my palm slightly, and now I’m at full mast, straining the denim.

I run my thumb along her zipper, and she squirms in the seat.

“Are we there yet?” She shimmies against my hand.

“Almost.” The road turns bumpy, and I keep stroking her, not wanting to lose our connection.

She reaches across the console and rubs my stiff cock, eliciting a groan.

“You really did miss me.”

“Told ya.” I glance over at her as we turn down the driveway, the front-porch light glowing in the darkness.

After throwing the truck into park, I scramble out, then rush around to open her door. I lift her into my arms, and she giggles, beaming up at me.

“Welcome back to the rat-free ranch. Well, there’s probably rats out by the barn, but they’re outdoors at least.”

She shakes her head, patting my chest, and I wonder if she can feel the banging of my heart through my shirt. I climb the steps, carrying her over the threshold.

“King ...” Her eyes glisten as she stares up at me, pupils dark and wide.

All I can think about in this moment is her. Not our past, not the feud between the two families, not the aftermath that may rain down now that we’re back home and really doing this.
