“You did perfect, Sol. You saved my life.” I managed to lift my arm to wrap her in a weak hug. “I don’t know how to thank you.”

She lifted her face to look into my eyes. “I would do it a hundred times over. I don’t want to do this without you.”

My lips curled up at the corners, and even that was painful. “No?”

“Don’t make me say it again,” she said playfully.

“What if I need to hear it?”

“Need?” She sounded skeptical but amused.

“I need it. It could be very important to my healing.”

She scoffed, but her smile gave her away. “We need to get you fed so you can actually heal.”

I cupped her beautiful face. “Don’t go yet.” My lips found hers, but the second they did, hers glowed red hot for a second. I recoiled. “What was that?”

She brought her fingers to her lips. “I don’t know, but it felt a little like when I touch one of those charge stones.”

“Are we siphoning each other’s magic?”

She closed her eyes. “My reserves feel the same, but I can’t exactly quantify it.”

“Mine do too. Depleted.” I rubbed my thumb over her cheek. “Kiss me again for science.”

She laughed but put her hand over mine and kissed me.

It wasn’t quite a spark like the first time, but I felt better kissing her. Only fractions, but it was something.

“Maybe we didn’t notice it before because you weren’t depleted.”

“Before?” I pushed.

“You know, when we…kissed before.”

Her awkwardness was endearing. “Maybe, but I do think we will have to test the theory.”

She pushed my chest playfully. “You’re injured and can barely lift your arm. How are you going to…”

I loved how she couldn’t say the words. “I assure you, Sol, I will always be able to give you pleasure, no matter what state I’m in.”

She gasped softly and blushed—I loved it—then she kissed me again, her body growing warmer by the second.

“You could always sit on my face. I’m sure my tongue is working fine.”

Her mouth dropped open, and she stared.

“I hear our patient is awake,” a deep but not unkind male voice said, interrupting the moment.

“I am.” I used the dregs of the magic I had from Zaria to try and shield us, trying to crane my neck to see who spoke.

“Zaria, why don’t you come and get some food for you and Nyx while Emrys checks Nyx over?” a second voice spoke. I instantly didn’t like the familiarity of his tone and wished I could get up to challenge these males and protect Zaria. My body would not do as I commanded, though, no matter how many times I tried. My muscles were spent. My energy was sapped. Every last drop I had was gone.

The two males came into view. An elderly healer and a handsome young male who set my teeth on edge. While the older male, obviously Emrys, set about gathering items, the other smiled and… Did he scent the air?

Bastard could tell Zaria was aroused, and I couldn’t get up.

Zaria climbed off the bed, and I managed to reach out my hand to stop her.
