“If you keep doing that, you’re going to make me hard again.” I picked her up, staying inside her as I moved us back to bed.

“You say that like I don’t want you inside me all night.”

We went again, dozing after we were spent. Wrapped in each other, we lay quietly with our thoughts.

“What did you have to talk to me about?” she asked.

“I don’t want to think about it.” I groaned, teasing my cock against her from behind to distract her.

She reached behind and took me in her hand, but instead of stroking me like I expected, she lined me up with her entrance. “Tell me.”

I shoved forward, getting instantly hard again. “Octavian wants to meet with us in the morning.”

She made the same sound I had. “Fuck me back to sleep so I don’t have to think about it until tomorrow.”

“I like the way you think.”

“Idon’t want to do this,” Zaria said as we approached Octavian’s office.

“I don’t either, but we have to show good will. He’s still a commander in the army, and it’s better not to make enemies when we have a war to fight.” It wasn’t my first choice, but it was the right one. “Court politics aren’t fun.”

“So I am learning.”

“With your new position, you have to.” I stopped outside Octavian’s door.

“It feels so wrong.”

“What does?” I asked.

“To barely get a few weeks of training and have this type of responsibility.”

“Our situation isn’t a normal one.” I put my hand on the doorknob. “I promise it will get better.”

“I know it will.” She took a deep breath and nodded for me to open the door.

I knocked, not waiting for a response, and opened the door, showing Zaria in.

Octavian was sat behind his desk but stood as we entered.

Not a single thing had been moved from the shelves or taken off the walls to prepare for handing over the office. He’d said by the end of the week, but it seemed strange that he hadn’t even started.

“Good morning,” Octavian said, sitting back in his chair. “Please, have a seat.”

It was the last thing I wanted to do, but I forced myself into one of the wingbacks while Zaria took the other.

“Thank you for taking time out of your busy day to meet with me.” His tone dripped with condescension.

“Of course, and since my day is packed, why don’t we get right to it?”

“I want to go over your report on the events at the outpost.” Octavian picked up a piece of paper from his desk and a pen. He lightly dipped it into an open ink pot.

“Is that necessary?” My report was very detailed, but I’d known questions were coming.

“I think so. I am confused about how you even knew the First Flight needed help. No alert was sent.”
