“Kinda,” I said, not wanting to hurt his feelings.

He swiped a hand over his face. “Okay, maybe it was my worst idea ever. I’m blaming it on grief, though, and we are never speaking of this again.” He turned and began walking away.

I had to jog to catch up with him. “Are you just leaving?”

“Yep.” Nyx kept walking.

“I thought we were having a private memorial?”

“We are. I’ve moved it to the Flaming Pegasus.” There was no stopping Nyx now he had that in his head.

“Wait, are you just going to leave it there?” Kiera asked. “Right next to the healer’s garden?”

“We are never speaking about it again.”

“Where I have to look at it every day?” Kiera argued.

“Never again.”

“Is he serious?” Kiera muttered to me.“Nyx, I already have to put up with that eyesore of your father outside the healer’s wing; now I have to look at wonky-eyed Kol every time I need to cut fresh herbs for my work?”

“The subject is closed! I need a drink…or seven.”

“So, this is just the statue that shall not be named? Kind of a mouthful,” Luka said. “We need an acronym.”

“No acronym!” Nyx pushed into the tavern and waved at the server. “A full round. No, make that two.”

“Is the general paying? Okay.” Luka sat on the other side of me.

Kiera took the bench across from us. “Did someone invite the new dragon you two brought home?”

I glanced at her, feeling awkward about him avoiding her. “Er...”

Kiera must have taken my lack of response as not understanding who she was talking about. “The massive one I could climb like a tree.”

I coughed.

“This innocent thing… I can’t handle it.” Kiera shook her head, misunderstanding. “Not when I know how loud you two are.”

“What? We are not.”

Kiera gave me a sarcastic look.

“Anyway, I thought you didn’t like flyers?” I turned it back on her, feeling my cheeks heat.

“I can’t stand them. Wanting to climb one like a tree doesn’t mean I don’t know that it’s an absolute no go.” Kiera shuddered.

“Jaxus? He was going to come, wasn’t he?” Nyx frowned. “I wonder why he didn’t show.”

I elbowed him lightly. “He’s avoiding her.”

“What?”

“Yes! Don’t make it a big deal.”

Kiera narrowed her eyes. “What are you two talking about?”

“You need to work on your poker face,” Nyx said with a laugh.
