Fifteen minutes later, we were chauffeured through the Sicilian roads in a Range Rover. I reached and grabbed Dominic’s hand, and our fingers linked tightly. I could feel his dark gaze staring at me, even though my eyes were out the window.

I understood Dominic now. This life—a life of normalcy, romance, and happiness—was different for him. He hadn’t experienced it in his youth and was foreign to it now. I hoped that the more he experienced my love, he would become comfortable in this new era.

Until then, I would take it one day, and one adventure at a time with him.

“It looks like the locals are gearing up for something fun,” I said, seeing festive colors, and locals rummaging the streets with beads and florals through my window.

“The Festival of San Giorgio.”

“Ah…is that why everything looks jovial?”

“Yes.”

I glanced at him. “Will we attend?”

“Would you like to?”

“Yes. I’m interested in the culture.”

He smirked. “Your parents kept you sheltered from your roots, and I have to wonder why.”

I sighed. “I think it’s mostly because they were busy carrying out my grandfather’s orders.”

“Hmm.”

“As long as I was fed, schooled, and supervised, that was all that mattered to them.”

“I’m sorry.”

My eyes widened, and I stared at him. “I’ve never heard you apologize before.”

“Because I’m not usually sorry.”

I laughed, and he cracked a smile. “What the hell, Dominic?”

“It’s true. You know I wouldn’t say it if it weren’t.”

I was tickled. “I love that about you.”

“Yeah?”

“Yes.”

“What else do you love?”

My eyes dropped to his lap, and something dark and ominous charged from him. My heart fluttered, and I met his gaze.

“Careful. We’ve only just arrived, but it doesn’t mean I won’t lock you down and have my way with you.”

Tingles fled over my skin. “I don’t have a problem with that.”

“So you say now.”

“I don’t. But first?—”

“Ah…see? Always the practical.”
