I wrap my arms around his neck and pull his mouth to mine.

He kisses me, and I don’t even care that I haven’t brushed my teeth yet this morning. I just want his lips on mine.

He groans.

“I should go,” he says as he continues to pepper my lips, cheeks, and nose with kisses.

“Me too,” I murmur.

He rolls off of me and stands to pull his jeans on.

I do the same and slide into my sweater before following him to the door.

“I’m supposed to help your brother take the globe to the garage tonight,” he says.

“I have to be at a Christmas dinner the mayor and his wife are hosting for council members,” I say.

“So, I’ll see you tomorrow?” he asks.

“Yep, I’ll be at the inn for the baby shower,” I inform him.

“I’ll see you then,” he says before giving me one more peck on the lips.

“See you then,” I agree.

He disappears down the stairs, and I shut the door behind him.

Oh my, I’m going to be late.

I hurry into the office to prep for the meeting.

“Late again. I’m going to need details,” Roxie sings as I rush past her desk.

After a brief meeting to go over the schedule of events for this weekend’s tree lighting and boat parade, I leave town hall and walk the short distance to the ice rink.

Dawn and her husband are already sitting at a bench, lacing up their skates, when I arrive.

“Sela,” she calls as she waves me over.

“I’m just going to grab a pair of skates. Be right there,” I shout back.

I get in line with the other customers to give the clerk my shoe size. He exchanges my heels for a pair of well-worn blades, and I join Dawn.

“I haven’t been on ice skates since I was little,” she says as she waits for me to slide into my pair.

Daniel is already on the ice, gliding effortlessly around the rink, practically dancing to the Christmas music pumping through the speakers as he dodges the other skaters.

“It’s like riding a bike,” I encourage as we stand. “Daniel seems to have it down pat,” I muse.

Her eyes find him among the crowd, and she rolls them. “Blah, I swear he’s good at everything.”

I laugh. “Sounds like a good trait to have,” I quip.

“I guess it’s kinda hot until he leaves me on my own to break my neck,” she says as she clutches my hand tightly.

I lead her to the ice, and I turn so that I’m facing her as I take both her hands. I glide backward at a slow pace as I fight to keep us both upright.

“Relax. You’re doing great,” I encourage her.
