“I got you something.”

She took it and inhaled. “A London fog? Perfect for a rainy day.”

“Exactly.” I gave her a quick kiss. “Let me help you clean up and we can get home.”

“Thank you.”

She and Stacey had already done most of the work, but I did what I could. The rain was really coming down when we left, so I shielded her from it with my coat while she locked up, then took her home. Neither of us were particularly hungry for a meal—we’d both had a late lunch—so after changing out of our work clothes, we settled on the couch with the cookies from Aunt Louise.

We chatted for a while about our days. The electricity blinked once and we paused, wondering if the power would go out. The wind was picking up outside, so it wouldn’t be surprising if it did. But the lights stayed on.

“Do you want dinner?” I asked.

“Actually, I kind of want to finish reorganizing the closets. I still need to take a load of clothes to donate to the clothing drive.”

“Need help?”

She smiled. “Sure.”

The bedroom was pretty well organized, with plenty of space for my stuff, but that had come at the expense of the other rooms in the house. The guest bed was piled with clothes she hadn’t sorted yet and the closet in the library was still full.

We started with the guest room closet. She pulled things out one at a time, gave them a quick once over, and handed them off to me, declaring keep or donate. Most were donate, but she had a few things she said were special or she thought she’d wear again, even if only on special occasions. I didn’t have any strong opinions about it. She looked gorgeous in anything—or nothing—so it was all the same to me. Whatever made her happy.

Besides, I just liked being with her. Even if all we were doing was sorting clothes and cleaning out closets.

We got to the end of the closet and I helped her hang up the keep pile alongside her old bridesmaid dresses. Which is to say, I handed her clothes and then grabbed her ass every chance I got.

Because, damn, that ass.

“I think we should bring the rest in here to sort it,” she said, and eyed the closet with her hands on her hips. “I want to give away enough stuff that everything fits in here.”

“What do you want to do with the other closet once it’s empty?”

She smiled. “I’ll probably end up filling it with books.”

I moved in and brushed a kiss across her lips. “Whatever makes you happy, baby.”

The closet in her library had a lot of dresses in garment bags in addition to more coats and winter clothes. My girl definitely had a thing for coats. We moved it all to the guest room so she could sort what she wanted to keep.

“These are tough,” she said, opening one of the garment bags. She held up a dress that reminded me of the Pride and Prejudice musical. “I was really into period costumes for a while. They’re so pretty but I almost never have a reason to wear them.”

I shrugged. “Up to you.”

“They’re also not the sort of thing you take to a clothing drive. I’ll make a costume pile and then go from there.”

“Maybe the library can be books and costumes,” I said.

“That was my idea before things got a little out of control. I swear, I don’t have a shopping addiction. I just never get rid of anything.”

I took the dress and tucked it back in the garment bag for her. “I want to see this on you. I bet it’s hot.”

“Careful, I might get scandalous and show a little ankle.”

I slid my hand down her backside and squeezed. “My bad girl.”

She giggled. “I do love how they used to dress, especially during the Regency era. Empire waists and long gowns. They were so pretty and flattering.”

“Were the costumes in that musical the kind of thing they wore?”
