I don’t even get through two pages when the penthouse elevator dings, signifying someone’s arrival. My heart speeds up, urging me to sit up straight and get off my ass, but I ignore it. Maybe if I pretend like he’s not here, Dominik will turn around and leave. Not bothering with me or deciding to waste his Sunday after all.

I read the same sentence four times before finally giving up on my book and turning around.

Dominik looks like a fucking god walking through Aaron’s kitchen, shrouded in sunlight as if he’s parting the clouds. My mouth goes dry at the sight of him. He’s wearing black pants and a white dress shirt with a few buttons at the top left open to reveal hints of intricate black ink. My fingers tingle, wanting to trace the art underneath his shirt and explore all that’s hidden.

His face is smooth, free of stubble, and his hair remains damp, starting to curl around his cheeks and the tops of his ears. His eyes glisten mischievously, and a carefully crafted smile tugs at the corner of his mouth. He stands tall above me, his blue and gold irises peering at me through dark lashes, and I’m certain I’m on the verge of melting.

This is unnecessary and unwanted.

He’s also my brother’s best friend. And he has absolutely no interest in me.

“Hi,” he says, his morning voice deliciously hoarse with traces of sleep.

Finally regaining my composure, I tilt my head down, picking up my book.

“Didn’t think you’d show.”

Why do I sound so flustered all of a sudden?

Dominik casually walks over and takes a seat on the coffee table, positioning himself to face me. His strong legs stretch out, almost grazing against mine, as he leans forward and rests his elbows on his thighs. The intoxicating scent of Irish Spring and cedar quickly fills my nostrils, causing a stir within me despite my less-than-ideal situation.

“What made you think today was a suggestion? I thought I was clear.”

There is nothing sexier than a man who takes control. But this isn’t any man—this is Dominik, and these thoughts and flutters need to disappear immediately.

“And who says I have to listen to you?”

He arches his brows up in challenge. “Do you want me to make you, Zoe?”

Good lord.

Yes. I mean, no.

“Did Aaron put you up to this?”

When he doesn’t answer, I glance back down at my book, praying he can’t hear my thundering heart in this quiet room.

Men are easy. They provide surface value when I need it. Most of the time, it’s shit, but I enjoy the company for a few hours. That’s why I took an interest in Greg. He was nice to look at, but unfortunately, that’s where it ended for him. Attractive men are not necessarily good in bed. Actually, more often than not, they are utterly selfish in bed.

Dominik’s large hand comes into view abruptly as he snatches my book away, hurling it across the room.

“What the fuck, Dominik!”

“I don’t take well to being ignored, little brat.”

The nickname triggers a flurry of fluttering butterflies deep in my belly. It’s a name I’ve been called before.

“Don’t call me that.”

“Why not? You’re being a brat, ignoring me when I got up early to take you out and show you around the city.”

Throwing my legs over, I look him dead in the eyes. “That’s very nice of you, but I didn’t ask you to do that.”

Dominik's gaze has always been both intimidating and intriguing. It ignites a fiery sensation within me, gently licking at the corners as his intense stare threatens to fuel the growing flame.

“That’s too bad. You can either enjoy yourself today or you can be in a sour mood. The decision is entirely up to you, but we’re going to go regardless. I’m not leaving.”

Those three little words tug at my heart, squeezing so tightly that it takes my breath away. I drop my head, playing with the edge of the blanket as I try to figure out a way to get out of today with Dominik. There must have been something in that ice cream last night that’s making my emotions so volatile.
