I looked at Sabrina, who wore a puzzled expression. I explained, “Our bows all sucked, big time. They were basically branches with twine, and they didn’t work. At all.”

Sabrina smiled. When I’d first met her, she’d been a little stand-offish, something to do with her shitty past. But the more time she spent with the BFF Circle, the more she let down her guard. “I only ever saw the movies, and by that age, I didn’t have time for stuff like that.”

I tapped my chin. “Hmm. Well, then you have some catching up to do. I’m sure we can come up with something absurdly childish to do together. Just give me some time.”

Sabrina asked, “Should I be worried?”

Abby and Emmy said, “Yes,” at the same time I said, “No.”

We all laughed, and Nolan came up behind me. As soon as he put a hand on my waist, my laughter died. And when he pulled my back against his front and held me close? I struggled to think about anything but his hot, solid body touching mine.

He even caressed my waist with his thumb, back and forth, oh-so-slowly, and each pass shot straight between my legs.

Sabrina nodded. “I can see it now.”

Nolan leaned down and nuzzled my cheek. My skin heated, and I mentally cursed. Since I had pale skin, everyone in the room would notice how he affected me.

And it was no act.

Warning bells rang inside my head, but I ignored them.

He said, “I heard my name and decided you’ve had enough time to talk about me.”

Emmy replied, “We were talking about the Secret Santa gift you gave Katie all those years ago.”

“How did you know it was me?”

Emmy rolled her eyes. “Please, you Wolfe siblings are never as sneaky as you think you are.”

West came up and put an arm around Emmy’s shoulder. “Oh, we have a few tricks, love. Ones you haven’t figured out yet.”

Beck also arrived, took Sabrina’s hand in his, and grunted. “I knew almost everything that went on inside this house, once I took over.” He looked at each of us in turn. “I know most—if not all—of the skeletons in the closet.”

Abby rolled her eyes. “Stop trying to be scary, Beck. You fail at it, big time.”

He scowled, but Sabrina lightly elbowed him in the ribs. “You’re a big softie for your family, Beck. Don’t even try to deny it.”

“Maybe.” Beck nodded toward the table. “It’s nearly time to sit down. I need help carrying things from the kitchen. Right now, Avery, Wyatt, and Aunt Lori are attempting to do it, and I’m a little worried.”

West tugged Emmy with him. “Come on. Wyatt’s more and more often trying to prove he’s an adult at eleven, and it doesn’t always end well.”

Abby said, “It’s always the quiet ones you have to watch out for. Which, in addition to my nephew, includes more than half my brothers.”

Nolan chuckled behind me. “By that logic, I’m the quietest. So maybe you should sleep with one eye open.” He pointed his forefinger and middle finger at his eyes, at Abby, and back again. “I’m watching you.”

Abby gave him the middle finger. “You may be the quietest, but you’re the least scary, by far. Not even that famous smolder will get me to do your bidding since I’m your sister.”

I turned my head to look at Nolan’s face. “Oooh, you should do the smolder.”

His eyes turned heated, and I bit my bottom lip, reminding myself that it was all an act.

He said huskily, “I’ll give you a private show later, baby.”

Abby made retching sounds. “If he has a nickname for you and is talking about private shows, that’s my cue to leave. Come on, Beck. Put me to work.”

Soon Nolan and I were alone. I expected him to release me, but he kept his arms around my waist and propped his chin on top of my head. Closing my eyes, I reveled in our farce. No guy had ever been so sweet with me in the past. Even if it wasn’t real, it made me realize my choice of going after the bad boys had been misguided.

There was something to be said about nice guys. Especially if my dreams of what Nolan could do with his hands and tongue turned out to be true. Then he wouldn’t be such a nice guy in bed. Which would be perfect.
