I wanted to say she could sit on my lap and we’d be about the same height. It’d be perfect for kissing her soft lips again as I rocked her against my cock. Perfect for me to grab her ass and pull her close, and maybe make both of us come with our clothes still on.

Shifting in my seat, I looked away from Katie’s tempting mouth. “Well, if you want to continue this deal, then I’ll have to be Nolan Drake sometimes. Remember how I said I’m always convinced I need to go to a New Year’s event or party?” She nodded. “It’s the same for this New Year’s, and that would be our first appearance together in L.A.” I met her gaze again. “And I won’t lie—it’ll be nerve-racking and make you the focus of a good chunk of the world.” I took one of her hands in mine and gently squeezed. “Since repeatedly asking if you want to do this will get annoying, I’ll ask just once more. And after that, you’ll simply have to tell me if you want out at any point. And if so, I promise there will be no hard feelings. So, are you ready to face your family for Christmas and then the world for New Year’s?”

Katie sat a little taller. “Hell yes, bring it. I’ll win them all over, easy peasy.”

I smiled and brushed a stray strand of hair off her cheek. “Well, then we should probably head back inside and deal with my family.”

“You make it sound like you’re going to confront a firing squad or something.”

I shook my head. “It’s not that bad. But usually I can avoid too much notice at Thanksgiving. I’m pretty good at keeping quiet and only cracking a joke when it really makes an impact. But tonight, we’re going to have tons of questions and teasing and who knows what else.”

Katie shrugged. “I can take it. After all, my mother is already making wedding plans.”

I blinked. “Wait, what? We’re not even officially engaged yet.”

“No, but none of her children have gotten married yet, so she’s champing at the bit. I mean, my brother is the same age as Beck, so she’s been waiting a long time. Of course, it’s kind of fun being the youngest and supposedly the first one to get married. It was a surprise for my mother.”

“Why?”

Katie shrugged. “I’ve briefly dated a lot of guys over the years. Ones I knew I didn’t see a future with. I guess it was part of me trying to figure myself out. My mother, on the other hand, just saw it as me making bad decisions.”

I suddenly disliked Katie’s mother for thinking so little of her daughter.

Placing a hand on my thigh, Katie said, “It’s her way. She loves me, I know it. And if I proposed moving to Australia tomorrow, she’d support me. But part of the way she shows she loves us is to be critical of everything.”

“It’s so different from my mother. She was usually sweet, unless we got into trouble. Then she took no prisoners and gave lengthy lectures.” I smiled at a memory of my mother having a go at Beck. “By the time she finished, we’d agree to anything to get away. It worked really well, for whatever reason.”

“She was always nice to me. And she made the best pies in all of Sonoma County. Just don’t tell my aunt that, or I’ll never hear the end of it.”

I chuckled. “I promise.” Wanting to change the subject from mothers—it was still hard sometimes to talk about mine since I missed her so much—I said, “Back to us and our long-term strategy. We’ll have to decide exactly when we want to announce our engagement. But not yet.” I stood and offered a hand. “Today, let’s just eat too much, play some games with my family, and pretend the rest of the world doesn’t exist.”

She placed her hand in mine, and I tugged her up. Katie stumbled against me, and I steadied her with my hands on her waist.

We stared at one another, pressed as close as we could get with clothes on, and my heart raced as my dick hardened. Katie was so fucking beautiful, and soft, and she smelled so good that I wanted to eat her up.

Everywhere.

Then someone cleared their throat loudly. The voice was Zach’s. “Here are the lovebirds. I finally get back from my trip, and you weren’t there to greet me. That wasn’t very nice, was it?”

Katie backed away from me, and I wanted to growl at being interrupted.

Thankfully, Katie had better manners than me and said, “You’re here all the time, Zach. I saw you less than a week ago. If anything, you should’ve been here to welcome Nolan home.” As I turned to face my younger brother, she took my hand. “You’re not as happy to see Nolan as I am, of course.”

Zach snorted. “I heard about you two dating. At this rate, are all my brothers going to end up with someone with the BFF Circle?”

Katie wrinkled her nose. “Considering Abby is a member, and she’s your sister, that’s just gross.”

“What the hell are you talking about? Of course I didn’t mean Abby. This isn’t some weird-ass book where siblings hook up with each other.” He shuddered in revulsion. “No. Just, no.”

Katie shrugged. “If you meant Amber, then you should’ve just said so. Although, if you’ve finally noticed her, you’re too late, by the way. Amber started dating someone a couple of weeks ago.”

Some unknown expression flashed across Zach’s face, but it was gone before I could blink. “Well, good for her. I always said her stepmom works her too hard, and she should live a little. Now, are you two coming? Aunt Lori said to drag you to the table, if needed. Although how I’m supposed to drag two people, I don’t know. I’m not Superman, or anything.”

I snorted. “And here I thought you were some sort of superhero or god, given your cockiness most days.”

Zach flashed his middle finger. “Says the movie star god. Now, come on. While I love traveling, I definitely miss Beck’s cooking when away. I don’t know what I’m going to do if I ever move out of here.”

My youngest brother walked off, and we followed. Once I was pretty sure Zach was out of earshot, I whispered, “Is Amber really dating someone?”
